What a difference a week makes. Near perfect conditions, overcast with light winds, enough wind to help on longer drives but no enough to inhibit the shorter iron shots. Next week’s forecast doesn’t look so great so it was important to make the most of it and some of us certainly did that!

Personally I managed to get out to a restaurant and had drinks and dinner last night so as expected I was feeling a little under the weather, this was sadly reflected in my scores this week.

Before I get into the scores I have to ask, what was going on at the 7th James? Your 3rd shot, posted by the ever positive, ever encouraging Tony Froud, seems to be about 20 yards from the tee? You seem to have got out of the deep rough in the end but how did you get in there? Needless to say the out of form Miller brother was breaking no records this week!

This week’s amusing anecdote comes courtesy of our winner who reported that Mr Laurence tried to complete the 9th hole beach style. Off the tee into the first bunker, out of the first bunker to the second bunker, out of the second bunker into the bunker left of the green, out of the bunker left of the green to the bunker right of the green, give up! I thought about setting up an eclectic bunker table but not sure how we’d keep track. Needless to say, Pete also was breaking no records score-wise this week but he may have a new record for bunkers on 9! Well done Pete!

Plenty of birdies this week. James (1,4,9) Martin Lythgoe (3,14) Paul (11) Pete Laurence (3) and Steve Reynolds (3)

Now to someone who was breaking records this week. Martin Lythgoe shot his best ever gross score of 78 and a eye watering 43 stableford points. Martin said, and I quote, “Couldn’t do anything wrong. 2 birdies and a 30 foot pit on 18 ro save par. My playing partners helped to keep me calm.” – Martin, excellent score but that has to be the worst completed score card I’ve ever seen. Richard and Pete’s scores were transposed on the back 9 making it almost impossible to decipher. Anyway, outstanding work on the course Martin, fantastic effort. Martin takes first prize and has made it to a single figure handicap for next week, awesome!!

In second place, the in-form Miller brother Duncan with 37 points on countback from Jock Hunter courtesy of a 21 point back 9. Well done Duncan. I have to say Duncan managed to recover brilliantly on a number of occasions and for once was almost finding fairways on a regular basis. Even his mis-hits were working out. Well done Duncan.

Jock’s back 9 wasn’t enough to help him to second place but it was enough to take the back 9 with 19 points. Well done Jock.

Last but not least Steve Reynolds takes the front 9 with 20 points. As we passed Steve’s group on the 11th tee Roger indicated that Steve and Jock were having good rounds and that Steve was definitely not the bridesmaid this week. Well, that seemed to be enough to put Steve off as he blobbed the 11th and the 17th which could’ve been enough to take his customary second place. Well done Steve, a fine front 9. You’ll be playing off 9.2 with My Lythgoe next week.

A request please gentlemen, please check your handicaps on the website when starting your round, a number of you don’t seem to be aware of your swindle handicaps.

Looks like we have a number of earlier starters next week with our new favourite 07:00 and 07:30 slots secured, seems we will need an early night.
