Overcast, humid and warm conditions for today’s golf and the wind was   a feature. This resulted in some low scoring with an average stableford of 28.75. Still, it could’ve been worse, as I wright this report it’s raining very hard and I’ve had to close my office door.   We trialled the new scoring spreadsheet this week and as expected there were a few teething problems. I will continue to tweak the sheet but it certainly helped with score capture and I’m happy to say that it worked mostly except the back 9 winner was not calculated correctly. I will continue to check the scores by entering into the tried and tested excel sheet until we have all of the functionality transposed to our new google sheets. Having a near real-time leaderboard is definitely a step up. Thanks to the scorer trialists, appreciate your patience and diligence. Feedback was that it’s a bit fiddley but it works ok…. Maybe we just need some bigger phones!   Before we get into winners etc., a philosophical qu

What a difference a week makes. Near perfect conditions, overcast with light winds, enough wind to help on longer drives but no enough to inhibit the shorter iron shots. Next week’s forecast doesn’t look so great so it was important to make the most of it and some of us certainly did that!   Personally I managed to get out to a restaurant and had drinks and dinner last night so as expected I was feeling a little under the weather, this was sadly reflected in my scores this week.   Before I get into the scores I have to ask, what was going on at the 7 th James? Your 3 rd shot, posted by the ever positive, ever encouraging Tony Froud, seems to be about 20 yards from the tee? You seem to have got out of the deep rough in the end but how did you get in there? Needless to say the out of form Miller brother was breaking no records this week!   This week’s amusing anecdote comes courtesy of our winner who reported that Mr Laurence tried to complete the 9 th hole beach style. A fine summer morning, a slight chill in the air, a stiff breeze, perfect conditions for golf! Or so one would think….   An entertaining round in our 08:30 group this morning. Our front 9 went quite well for some of us but it was a game of two halves and I must be honest, when the pressure started to tell the fractures in relationships really started to show. Early on the back 9 there were questions about Martin Deery’s credit worthiness (from Martin!) which perhaps warrant some investigation as his debt to the swindle continues to grow! Paul G, this may be one for HAL! On the 15 th we posted a solitary 1 point from our 4 ball and thigs were looking grim off the tee on the 16 th . The Martin’s both put their tee shots out of bounds and this impacted me so much that I didn’t bother to hit mine out of the tee box (6 yards left and a yard forward to be precise.) We faired better by the end of the hole with Martin Lythgoe and I holing out for a point each and Andy shooting a stupendou

A windy and gloomy Saturday morning and as we set off at 07:30 I was fairly confident that there would be some poor scoring for the day.   Our group just couldn’t get going despite 4 excellent first drives we found ourselves spraying balls all over every part of the course.   I have a sequel to great escape on 12 last week. This week I hit a perfect 8 iron off the tee and inspired by Pete putting 3 balls into the hedge decided to do exactly the same. I played a provisional onto the ladies tee of the 13 th hole. Faced with a tricky downhill approach I decided approach wedge chip and run was the way to go. My chip was a little enthusiastic reaching to about 5 feet from the green, out of bounds was beckoning. However, due to my recent blessings on this particular hole, I caught the sand on the edge of the bunker which checked the ball perfectly allowing it to trickle down to about 8 feet from the hole. A nice straight put saw me down in 6 (for 2) despite the hedge penalty. I ho
