Well he's done it, James Miller is crowned POTY 2023! A guard of honour is probably the appropriate celebration of James' now unassailable lead New Years Eve Eve. More of that later. It was super windy and the course was pretty muddy and sticky which made for some pretty hard going. The average stableford score was way down at 26.55 and the winning score was 7 points ahead of the second place. In fact the only person to beat 29 today was the winner and how fitting he should shoot net Par to do it. James was talking about how many rounds were won recently with low 30s scores, this week it was no surprise. There were only two birdies out there this Saturday and there was only one family scoring them. James (17) and Duncan (10) Well done gents. Our winner this week James Miller shot +6 (+3 out, +4 in) which while not his best score was outstanding given the conditions. He was taking this one seriously and was out on the course several times ahead of the big day preparing himself

Christmas Cup 2023 - 16 December

The Christmas cup this year took place on Saturday 16 December 2023. As usual the victor from the previous year had the honour of organising the competition and for the second year in a row Paul had the privilege. He had blagged the date straight after the previous year's competition and was super organised gathering the monies, collecting the orders for food and preparing the prize envelopes.  The weather was much kinder than previous years with receptive greens and fairways (if somewhat muddy) warm conditions and no wind or rain forecast.  The result was some reasonable scores with 92.7 gross average and 30.86 stableford average.  There were 5 birdies: Paul Gardner (14 and 17) Tony Froud (3) Pete Laurence (14) and James Miller (9) Well done gents Paul started the day really strong and was 1 over after 4 holes. He then got a little worried that he might win the event again making it 3 in a row but most importantly having to organise next year's competition. He eased off from

Rain, what rain? Well I think that is the wettest front 9 I've ever played and it was not easy. the course was squelchy under foot and it made for hard going especially on the greens. Still, 11 of us were not deterred, despite forecasts of heavy rain until 10am, a die-hard group turned out to wade around the course.  The rain did eventually stop and our back 9 was far more enjoyable than the front 9.  There were some birdies out there today, all on the back 9. Steve Reynolds (11) James Miller (18) and Peter Williams (14) Well done gents.  Our winner today turned out for once not having double booked (At least if he did double book he forgot and came to golf anyway!) Martin Lythgoe scored 33 points to win on countback from Steve Reynolds. Well done Martin.  Yes, that's right, Steve predictably came second with 33 points. He will now be sitting second in POTY and RTDB and joint second in the eclectic gross! Nice one Steve. The front 9 went to Roger Gibbs who turned out to take ad
