HOLE IN ONE!!!! Yes, congratulations to Steve Brewerton for "acing" the 17th this week!! Steve was so averse to buying the drinks that he claimed to Tony that his name was Brian. Tony duly reported I had actually and I was buying the drinks. Nice try Steve but you'll be putting your hand in your pocket! In other news, Roger Small (out in the first group) managed a drive on 10 that barely managed to get past the tee (see pic below) at least it was in play Roger!! The conditions were near perfect with little to no breeze to start and only a light breeze later in the round. It was humid and warm, to be expected on the last Saturday in July! The average score was back up to 31.75 (average gross down to 91.1) despite Andy Simpkin's 25 points bringing up the rear. In fact, 75% of players scored 31 points or better this week. Birdies (or better today) for Steve Brewerton (15, 17) Steve Reynolds (8) Pete Laurence (9) and Roger Gibbs (17) Well done all! This week was all abo

The heat finally normalised after some extraordinarily hot days and despite there having been some rain the course is in a pretty baked condition. Dry and dusty is how if feels and you're lucky if you get a favourable lie in the middle of the fairway. The school holidays have now started so I'm sure we'll have lots of rain to come over the next six weeks! A brief report today as not much to remark on for my part, a good paced early round for us in fair to warm conditions with some fairly unremarkable golf.  14 players turned out today with the average gross score back up to 94.6 and the average stableford score down at 29.43 helped by a 19 from Paul Gardner (PG has so far declined to comment) and Peter Creighton who attempted a reversal of  the numbers of last weeks score to come home with 24. Taking a small sample (last 4 games) it appears that our double or worse count of 95 is much higher than normal as a percentage of scores posted. We normally are heavy on bogies but I

Well, we are enjoying a prolonged spell of fine weather. It seems like a lifetime ago since we were squelching around in our waterproof gear, umbrellas raised against a strong wind!  Anyway today was a day of two halves. The front 9 (for the early group at least) was overcast and pleasantly warm. On the back 9 the sun came out to started to bake us.  The temperature was set to get up into the 30s and so was the scoring. Average stableford today of 31.14 points and an average gross score of 91.1 with only one player breaking the 100 barrier today.  My round with the Miller brothers did deliver a few notables. Firstly, Duncan (Dunc the Bunk) seemed to have found a new fondness for bunkers - Fairway on 2, greenside on 3 and 4 etc. This led to an extraordinary run of blobs, 6 in total! James started ok (par/bogey) but somewhat fell apart when he shanked his tee shot on 3, necessitating the obligatory shout of "FORE" for the gents on the 4th tee. He then managed a birdie that di
