Scores for Saturday 27 June 2020

Keith Rowden and Paul Stammers left the group this week to focus on mid-week golf, gardening, watching ball sports and strictly. Best wishes to both of them. Keith has asked to be taken off the group mail but Mr Stammers wants to keep an eye on the form of those of you looking to play more mid-week golf!   A warm, wet and windy morning for our escapades this Saturday. The rain come coming, stopping then coming again, a total contrast to conditions this week although I think I’d take that over the scorching temperatures of Wednesday/Thursday this week.   A range of scores today but a reasonable average score of 30.47 given the conditions with 17 players spread over 5 tee times.   We had some drama to start the day with our usual failure to secure the 08:30 spot and today the 09:00 spot also. This means that our independence day revels will be spread out from 07:30 to 09:50.   I have to share an amazing escape story of my own today before I get into the scores.   On t

Scores fro Saturday 20 June 2020

A humid summer morning and must consternation at a later than planned start due to someone not getting out of bed to open the gate until 7pm!   The shout went out to warn people of long delays on the tee – “There’s a queue a mile long, at least an hour”, “it’s about 30 minutes”, “what queue?” – most of us got off on our allotted timeslot thanks to the 10 minute spacing still in force at the club.   Bounce outs and bunkers are still the hot topic but seems today the balls were holding in the holes although the scores maybe suggest bounce outs were the least of our worries today. The rough is ROUGH at the moment and claiming more than the average number of balls and people were definitely struggling with the greens which were slow today following a week of perfect growing conditions.   Birdies today for Jock (18 th ) Martin Lythgoe (11 th ) and Richard Hyne (14 th ) and another Eagle for the group on 18, this time to the Bridesmaid. Well done guys.   Average score today w

Well we knew there was bound to be controversy today with the change of the depth of the hole and the rule change to NOT allow bounce outs. Well there were a few bounce outs, interestingly on slow puts. Seems the cup cover is acting like a trampoline, the more centred the putt the more the bounce.   Conditions were fine today with a light breeze which increased as the morning went on. The course is still very dry although the fairways were holding a little better than in recent weeks. The greens are in fine condition although there were a little slower than normal resulting in a greater number of puts than normal today (bounce outs aside.)   Average score was down due to a few unlucky scorers getting down into the low 20s. – 30.29   Birdies this week for Jock Hunter (15), Martin Deery (18), Martin Lythgoe (2), Roger Gibbs (5), Steve Reynolds (5 and 18) and Richard Hyne (8) – Well done guys.   Our winner this week went for the most popular score today.
