The first green (and many on our round today) was literally covered in worms. Thanks no doubt to the excellent condition of the soil and the warm weather we seem to have a worm bonanza.  The conditions today were fairly good although we're adjusting yet again, this time to soft receptive fairways and greens and of course the slightly cooler temperatures.  Our round was fairly uneventful today. We formally welcomed Peter Williams to the group and he demonstrated his ability to fit in to the group early on by duffing his tee shot off the second tee and go on to blob the hole.  Only two birdies today: Peter Williams (11) and Duncan Miller (18) Our winner today chalks up his first top spot of the year. Roger Small took the honours with a solid 34 (16 out and 18 in)  Well done Roger! TonE was lucky today to save his best golf for the back 9, taking 2nd place on countback from Martin Deery and Coenraad Fourie. Well done TonE! Coenraad posted an excellent 21 to take the front. Well Done C

Well, as I write this report the weather is biblical in the Noah sense. It started raining at about 10:00 this morning and hasn't stopped since. I included a shot of the view from the main adults pool which I've not dipped a toe in as it's about a mile walk from our residence. Not that we've been slumming it you understand, we're just not prepared for today's weather and we have a private pool so why go all the way over there! Anyway, I did keep half an eye on what was going on today as the intrepid early birds trundled round the golf course but I only had two thirds of the story as the second group seemed to be having technology issues, either that or some serious golf issues!! It turns out it was the latter. Only one birdie today for Steve Reynolds (4) Well done Steve! The average scoring today was below our usual with 28.73 stableford and 93.6 gross.  Due to the incomplete picture it looked very much like Roger Small had it in the bag today but that was bef

Day 1 Rain threatened to put the dampeners on the annual outing to Wokefield Park and the delayed London Marathon this year with a weather front skimming the south of the country on Sunday morning. Luckily the rain passed slightly further south than expected and despite downpours as I headed down to the venue, the rain stopped around 09:30 and the course was in great shape by the time we teed off at 11:08. The draw had been done the night before by James Miller but Pete Creighton had to drop out at the last minute resulting in a last minute shuffling of the pack.  Day 1 groupings Group 1 - Brian Geddes, Roger Gibbs, Paul Gardner, Martin Lythgoe Group 2 - Stephen Brewerton, Duncan Miller, Roger Small, Andrew Simpkin Group 3 - Paul Stammers, Tony Froud, James Miller, Steve Reynolds The sun came out as the first group approached the first green and stayed with us throughout the rest of the day, no dodging the showers like 2021.  It was clear early on in the round that Martin meant busines

Eyebrows - this is mostly what Pete Creighton saw on the front 9 today but at least he was missing the bunkers. Notably on 9 he went from one eyebrow to another. This made it a tough front 9 for Pete but he did manage to bounce back with 17 on the back 9 to reach 30, leading a pack of 4 with that score to win....nothing! Personally I was on for a very good round today with 18 out and 15 points on the back 9 with 3 holes to go. I managed just one point on the last 3 holes thanks to pushing tee shot on 16 onto the 15th fairway a meal of the recovery and scrambling a point, shanking the tee shot on 17, losing the ball and going back to play a provisional which I very nearly birdied for a point but just missed then shanking the second shot on the 18th to leave myself 100 yards which I duly overhit by about 10 yards leaving a nasty downhill chip. The scorecard says it all. The conditions were nice today with nice receptive greens and fairways, a light breeze and some beautiful sunshine. T
