Yes the similarities are quite striking - the hat, the top, the kneeling on the course to pray for divine intervention. I'm afraid that's where the similarities end. The top picture is of course Tiger Woods, possibly having one of his off days, the bottom picture is none other than Roger Small. This was Roger's approach to not being beaten by his sciatica pain. His scoring on the front 9 was excellent for 7 holes, playing within himself clearly having some very positive outcomes. It went down hill after that unfortunately but well done Roger for getting around despite the obvious discomfort.  The turnout this week was excellent with 15 players turning out on what was a very cold morning with a brisk northerly wind to keep us chilled. The impact was that it was difficult to stay warm and the wind was not helping the golf either.  We had 1 birdie this week or should I say I had a birdie on 9. Well done me.  Our winner today was clearly inspired by a mistake in the scorecard

We got away with just the tail end of storm Otto this week so while it was windy it was very playable. Personally I missed out due to food poisoning on Friday night left me feeling a little washed out throughout Saturday but I'm on the mend as I write this. As always, I'm very happy to relay stories from the course and this one was definitely worth sharing. I think the following image may come in handy.... The infamous MetroGnome swung his club on the 11th tee and unusually found the first bunker rather than the middle of the fairway. He proceeded (again uncharacteristically) to hit his second and third shots into the same bunker. What's going on I hear you say, I know right! Anyway, it got worse! His next shot managed to get out of the first bunker only to find the next bunker. At this stage I'm sure you're having trouble believing this story but I'm told by the man himself it's true. Now, for Roger's benefit, he's taken 4 shots to this point meanin

Yes, it's starting to feel a little bit like spring. Some chilly mornings but the days are lengthening and the conditions are (for now at least) improving. January was not a great month for golf with rain and frost dominating.  The course is still recovering from the harsh weather we've had over the last few months and maintenance at this time of year always makes things less pleasant but I considering all things the course is in great conditions. With the exception of the bunkers which have suffered from the amount of rain we had earlier in the winter, everything is looking in great shape, well done greenkeepers!! So we start February with a perfect day for golf. Light winds and overcast conditions should have resulted in some good scores, sadly the average was down at 29.83 and up at 92.1, not our best week by far.  Only two birdies today, probably due to the lack of Jock, Duncan and Pete Laurence: Steve Reynolds (18) and Tony Froud (7) well done gents!
