This week continued a spell of adverse conditions! The rain has gone but the frost has replaced it.  This made for some comedy golf including: inability to use driver on some holes due to not being able to get a tee in, hitting the green being penalised by bouncing straight through the green, random bounce when the ball hit the ground. It was hard, quite literally! The scores reflected the difficult conditions with average stableford down at 28. Some stories came my way yesterday afternoon and I'll do my best to relay some.  James somehow managed 4 birdies including a 50 yard chip in on 13, only witnessed by James I'm afraid as everyone else was struggling with their own issues. Did it happen if nobody saw it? Discuss. There was a rumour that Pete may have played a risk shot with one foot on the frozen lake, I hope he didn't ground his club! Duncan managed to chip onto the lake only to have the ball bounce into the bunker. Lucky? Discuss Paul Gardner was going strong with

The first round of the year was NOT that well attended due to the rain and other commitments. Contrary to conspiracy beliefs of the not so luck golfers, Steve Reynolds and Duncan Miller did not cry off due to a bit of light rain but instead found themselves having to do less interesting things. A few of the fair weather golfers of course left it until the last minute to decide not to turn up and as it happens they missed a relatively dry if somewhat windy round of golf to start the year.  There were just enough turning out to make it count therefore we have a few announcements. Birdies were in short supply but unlike computer chips there was some supply: James (2), Pete Laurence (15) and Pete Williams (18) Well done gents. 50% of the field won points to get their POTY campaign off to a flying start although the scoring was a little down on New Years Eve at 30.5 average stableford and 91.4 average gross. Our winner this week matches his winning points haul for 2022 in the first round.
