Scores for Saturday 23 December 2023
Well he's done it, James Miller is crowned POTY 2023! A guard of honour is probably the appropriate celebration of James' now unassailable lead New Years Eve Eve. More of that later.
It was super windy and the course was pretty muddy and sticky which made for some pretty hard going. The average stableford score was way down at 26.55 and the winning score was 7 points ahead of the second place. In fact the only person to beat 29 today was the winner and how fitting he should shoot net Par to do it. James was talking about how many rounds were won recently with low 30s scores, this week it was no surprise.
There were only two birdies out there this Saturday and there was only one family scoring them. James (17) and Duncan (10) Well done gents.
Our winner this week James Miller shot +6 (+3 out, +4 in) which while not his best score was outstanding given the conditions. He was taking this one seriously and was out on the course several times ahead of the big day preparing himself for the conditions. He score more than 25% of the pars and 50% of the birdies. Well done James, a great round!!
In second place was Peter Creighton with 29 on countback from Andy Simpkin. Peter probably thought that he wasn't going to be winning anything today but there you go! Well done Peter.
The front 9 went to Pete Laurence with 17 points on countback from Andy Simpkin (again!) Well done Peter. Never mind Andy!
Duncan Miller took the back 9 with 16, no countback required for this one as I think most people had given up by the 18th by the look of the scores. Well done Duncan, your momentum is really building now!
So as we approach the last game of the year, this is how it stands.
James is confirmed POTY for 2023 and Steve has secured the bridesmaid position. Andy or Paul can both share the second place honours but I'm sure they will not want to wrestle the bouquet from Steve.
The RTDB has a similar look to it except James can be caught providing Steve wins next week, everyone has turned out and James doesn't win anything. Steve can be caught on this one so double second may not happen although it's looking likely.
The eclectic gross looks like it should be James assuming there is no miracle round from one of the other nearby players.
I'm edging the eclectic stableford but that is by no means certain.
So there are some things to play for next week but it seems the fat lady may already be on her second verse by the time we tee off.
