Scores for Saturday 25 July 2020
Overcast, humid and warm conditions for today’s golf and the
wind was a feature. This resulted in
some low scoring with an average stableford of 28.75. Still, it could’ve been
worse, as I wright this report it’s raining very hard and I’ve had to close my
office door.
We trialled the new scoring spreadsheet this week and as expected
there were a few teething problems. I will continue to tweak the sheet but it
certainly helped with score capture and I’m happy to say that it worked mostly
except the back 9 winner was not calculated correctly. I will continue to check
the scores by entering into the tried and tested excel sheet until we have all of
the functionality transposed to our new google sheets. Having a near real-time
leaderboard is definitely a step up. Thanks to the scorer trialists, appreciate
your patience and diligence. Feedback was that it’s a bit fiddley but it works
ok…. Maybe we just need some bigger phones!
Before we get into winners etc., a philosophical question. If
Peter Creighton drives the ball off the tee of the 10th hole to
within 100 yards of the hole and nobody bothers to watch him do it, did it really
happen? Pete reported this is what happened but did it? Discuss.
Last week we asked the question how will Martin Lythgoe do
with his new single figure handicap. Well we don’t need to ask the question any
more as his new handicap lasted just one round before being bounced back to
double figures. Never mind Martin, it was good while it lasted, you now have a target
to aim for.
Birdies this week for Andy Simpkin (9th) James
Miller (2nd and 4th) Pete Laurence (16th)
Roger Gibbs (9th) and Richard Hyne (17th) Well done guys.
James birdie on the 4th was courtesy of an outstanding put and a big
helping of that low handicapper luck that Tony is always banging on about. He
hooked his shot over the trees and bounced over the bunker, placed his shot at
the back of the green then looped an outstanding put. Well done James.
Our winner this week with a solid 36 points was Richard
Hyne. Richard joined James and I on the back 9 last evening and today’s golf
was a step up from yesterday, clearly the lie-in this morning suited you. Well
done Richard.
In second place with 34 points is Pete Laurence. Pete was
the leader in the club house for a while as our last group was some way behind
our first group with over an hour separating them. Congratulations Pete.
The front 9 goes to Roger Gibbs with 19 points. Roger had a
wobble on 6 with an uncharacteristic topped drive to just past the ladies on the left. He recovered nicely
on the next hole with a sandy par a bogey and a birdie to finish. Well done
Roger.
The back 9 goes to Jock Hunter with another solid 18 back 9.
Well done Jock.
Have a great week gents, hopefully some better golf next
week.
