Scores for Saturday 15 August 2020
What a difference a week can make. Constant rain over recent days with showers forecast for the day. My forecast was 25% chance of light showers, what it didn’t say was 75% change of heavy showers! It was wet, wet, wet!!
With standing water on the greens and squelchy ground under
foot we were in for some pretty poor scores today. The average stableford score
was just 29.27.
I saw a first today, two birdies scored by two players on
the same hole, both with 30ft+ puts and both perfectly executed. This happened on
the 3rd hole where Richard sunk an amazing 30ft+ put which was
perfectly weighted starting out right and looping gradually in to drop into the
hole, any less weight and it would have been a near miss. “You’ve seen how to
do it now Roger, you just need to do the same.” He had and he did, another
perfectly weighted put. Well done both, that was worth writing about.
Two more birdies from yours truly on 8 and 17. 8 was a 5 pointer
and I had a chance at a birdie 5 pointer on 16 which sadly slipped past the
hole leaving me a tricky up-hill which I missed. Peter Creighton did manage to birdie
this tricky pin today, the last of our 5 birdies.
Three of our number failed to complete a round today. Steve didn’t
want to get his holiday off to a bad start by rushing around in wet clothing to
get on the road. Tony and Martin D also ducked out.
Well, thanks to 22 points on the front 9 and a more average
16 points on the back 9 today, the top prize goes to yours truly. My 5 pointer
on 8 and 4 pointer on 17 made all the difference today. I wobbled a bit on the
back 9, blobbing 10, 12 and 15 but pulled myself together to seal the deal.
Well done me.
Paul “The Champ” Gardner managed 37 points to take second
place today. A more consistent 20 and 17 would’ve taken the prize had I dropped
one more point on the back 9. Well done Paul.
The front 9 goes to Richard Hyne with a solid 18 points despite
a doughnut on the first. Well done Richard.
The back 9 goes to Peter Creighton. Peter has found comfort
in his sub 20 handicap and is determined to stay there. Well done Peter, nice
work!
Martin Lythgoe, you’ll be happy to know that you’re getting
two shots back and will be playing of 12 next week. Congratulations!
Happy holidays for those of you on hols this week. Have a great week all. See you next Saturday.
Thanks again for this, Brian. And well done you!
