The last day of October in a year we'd all like to forget. With another national lockdown looming our intrepid group decided to brave the forecast heavy rain and strong winds to get some golf in before we're stopped again from enjoying ourselves. Enjoyable is not a word which would be appropriate to describe todays ludicrous conditions. At one point it was hard to see the ball through the air due to the rain and by the time Paul and I had finished the back 9 it felt like I'd jumped in a swimming pool with all of my clothes on.

With (lucky) Richard missing out due to a puncture, we were reduced to 3 balls on the 08:44 and 08:52 tee times. We thought we would be in for a slow round with a four ball in front. As we rounded the corner onto the second tee however, the second fairway was empty. "Wow, they've cleared the second already!" I observer, "no they haven't said Paul, they're over there!" I looked like the whole group had decided to go the longest route possible for the second hole. So we waited and it was to be this way until the 7th hole when everything seemed to speed up a bit, urged on by the increasing torrent of rain no doubt.

Tony wasn't his usual lucky self today and lost his head quite literally on the 8th hole. His second shot sent the head of his club nearly as far up the fairway as the ball. He decided that the conditions were not improving on the 10th hole and bailed out for an early bath.

Tony was not the only early bath today. John James and Steve Reynolds also thought enough was enough and bailed on the back 9.

Not surprisingly the average score for the 11 that finished the round was down at 28.82 today. You can actually see where people were when the heaviest of the rain was coming down from the score cards.

James, looks like you still get no shots back, 29 points being almost bang on average today!!

Birdies today for yours truly (1) Coenraad (4, 10) and James (3,14) This means that James now only has 2 to go for the full set!!

Our winner with 36 points is yours truly. I posted a solid 21 points on the front 9 despite a blob on 2 and a reasonable 15 points on the back 9 despite a run of 1,0,0 at the start of the front 9. I finished strong with 8 10 points on the last 4 holes to secure the victory. Well done me.

Coenraad came second with 35 points. A solid 18 points for the front 9 followed by the second best back 9 of the group wasn't quite enough to take the victory. Well done Coenraad.

The front 9 goes to Roger Small who posted 18 points on the front 9. Well done Roger.

The back 9 goes to Andy Simpkin with 17 points. Well done Andy.

The weather looks like it's brightening up for next week so hopefully we'll still be allowed out!

Have a great week all.
