Week 4 of Lockdown II, we're back out next week gentlemen!!

We take a trip back to a few months before the Covid madness started. It was very wet last year but I recall we had a cold spell at the end of November and seems we had some frost to contend with. Andy was out injured, Martin was planning a pre-Christmas trip to Brighton and Paul and I were already looking forward to Summer League. Enjoy the report gents and see you next Saturday (or sooner!)

The report

Stop press…. It seems that there has been a mistake in the order of merit for this week. I suspect foul due to the Steve “the bridesmaid” Reynolds being unhappy about Martin’s continued success as he marked him as 4/2 rather than 4/3 on the 11th hole today. This changes the order of merit at the top to make me the bridesmaid for this week.

Now, I had planned to do a special feature on Brian “The Legend” Geddes this week, I took my notepad into my nice hot bath this afternoon and spent 20 minutes reviewing each of the shots of my round including the Polar Express sliding slam into the hole on the first, the chip out of the bunker at the pin on 5, the destruction of the hole on 6 and so on…. That page has been torn from the notepad and thrown on the fire, back to the drawing board so to speak.

Before I get into the scores, I think it important to mention that today was the first time I’ve seen James loose his cool. I think he sensed early on that the full-house was of birdies was not to be. The conditions were not favourable and James was a little thrown by being out driven on the first, fourth and fifth holes by yours truly. On the seventh hole I saw James hit the ground with his club following a 100 yard slap of the ball. Of course James soon regathered his composure and went on to birdie the next hole, posting 21 of his 25 points after the seventh.

It’s worth mentioning (I think) that Andy Simpkin, AKA Lame boy, will be returning to the course next Saturday for the Turkey Trot. We’ve had to draft in a new team member as Martin has decided that he plays better when Lame boy isn’t around so has decided instead to go trip a little light fantastic in the bars of specialist interest down in Brighton. Good luck with that Martin, hope it goes well.

Onto our winners

In first place with 37 points, winning on countback from Brian Geddes is Martin Lythgoe. A few extra dollars in hand for your trip to Brighton! This win continues a  purple patch for Martin who is still riding high from the victory over Tricky Steve “The Bridesmaid” Reynolds last week. Well done Martin, thankfully the spreadsheet never lies!!

In second place with 37 points is yours truly. AN outstanding front 9, shame about amen corner!! Well done me.

The Front nine goes to Paul “The Champ” Gardner who posted a really not too shoddy 19 points. Well done Paul, a steady 35 points. Let’s see if we can both score well in the spring when we start summer league!

The back 9 goes to Paul Stammers with 15 points on countback from Pete Laurence, Jock Hunter and James Miller. Paul managed a birdie on the 18th to take home the prize. Well done Paul.

Next week it’s the Turkey Trott then the following week is the Christmas Cup followed by the Christmas Lunch. Jock assures us he will locate the cup and bring it along although he seemed confident that he will not need to hand it over to anyone else.

This means that there are no more games that will contribute to the end of season honours and the honours have been decided.

Some of you noticed that the tables stale in last week’s report. This was not intentional but it is convenient as things were much closer than it seemed and it seems only fitting that I should save the reveal until the Christmas Lunch.

Here are the scores for the week. See you next week for the TT.
