Scores for Saturday 3 April 2021
Several months of being unable to play or play only in 2 balls and 9 holes and finally at Saturday that somewhat resembled a normal swindle. It was refreshing to be out and about with someone other than my family or colleagues and it was great to be out on a dry, if somewhat chilly, Saturday morning.
The golf was surprisingly good for the most part. James Miller started his usual march towards the Gross Eclectic title with a birdie on the 1ST HOLE! Coenraad was on fire, fresh back from boot camp no doubt although he's playing that one down at the moment. I started with a solitary point on the first so all normal there. Andy started well also with a par on the first but his game deteriorated after that.
On the 3rd hole Andy found the bunker at the front left of the green then scrambled it out of that bunker straight into the bunker to the right of the green. He nearly put it straight back into the first bunker on the next shot but was saved by the second cut. I think he found Sand on the 4th hole leading to a second blob. There were many more throughout the game much to Sandy's frustration. The highlight though came on the 5th hole where Andy hit what appeared to be a great drive only to see the ball not make it to the fairway. On arriving at the ball Andy discovered his ball had split in two, explaining it's poor flight (on this occasion at least.) Andy replaced the ball and proved that he didn't need the ball to split to make it go 50 yards! Andy did play some reasonable holes but his early hope became despair by the back 9. Andy headed straight to the pro shop to book a lesson after the round.
Coenraad decided to manage his handicap on the back 9 including managing to find the bunker on the 17th green from the 14th tee. James was impressed by this remarkable shot and insisted it was worthy of a mention ;-)
On to the scores.
Well, it seems that resting the shoulder for a few months did some good and I managed a respectable 35 points to beat Roger Small on countback. Well done me and well done Roger.
Coenraad shot a spectacular 21 points on the front 9 (it could've been a few more!) and cruised home on the back 9. Well done Coenraad!
Last but not least Martin Deery bossed the back 9 with another spectacular 21 points. Well done Martin, excellent palindromic round (1221)
It's the delayed captains hokey cokey next week so no Swindle but plenty of golf between now and the next one. Happy Easter gents, have a great week.
