Scores for Saturday 22 May 2021
Yes it's been great weather for ducks and the course was a little less than firm under foot today. Thankfully the rain stayed away for the morning allowing us to bumble around the course.
Early in the morning a strange man was found wandering around the golf course by the first group. They approached him cautiously as he seemed a bit lost and out of place but as they got closer they realised it was Martin Lythgoe, not some homeless person. Martin had previously planned to play elsewhere, favouring the company of others rather than the early birds but this was cancelled due to course conditions, at least that's what Martin's new friends told him....
Some birdies on the board to talk about today including two worth a mention. The first one was from Roger Small who found the bottom of the green on 14 then putted the ball all the way up the hill and found the hole, just. The second was Richard Hyne who hit the flag on 18 with his second shot with the ball dropping down for an easy tap-in. Well done both. Andy left work that he wanted me to mention his birdie on the 16th but I'll let him tell you all about it himself.
Birdies this week from Andy Simpkin (8, 16) Roger Small (14) and James Miller (5) and Richard Hyne (18)
My group was too busy laughing to score many points. Paul Surprised us with a joke at the 8th tee. "I used to race snails and was pretty good at it back in the day. I once tried removing the shell of my fastest snail to see if it would go faster but it became a bit sluggish!" Jock gave Paul a big pat on the back, "Well done, that's my boy!" Anyway Paul wasn't done distracting us, he kept going on about shaving the hole, something he seems to know a lot about....
On to the scores.
This week's winner, Andy Simpkin, smashed through the 36 barrier to bag 39 points. Andy shot 19 points out and 20 points in to take the top prize. Well done Andy, nice work.
In second place, Pete Laurence with 34 points, 18 out and 16 in. Well done Peter.
James Miller took the front 9 with 18 points, still some way off his best but starting to pick off the birdies. Well done James.
Roger small won the back 9 on countback from Duncan with 16 points, thanks mainly to his 4 pointer on the 14th hole (see above.) Well done Roger.
Have a great week all, looking forward to a long weekend next week!
