Scores for Saturday 29 May 2021
Finally, we're allowed indoors to meet with our friends and family, share food and drink and hug each other and then out comes the sunshine! We shouldn't complain, it's been a long time coming and looks like we have a bank holiday with good weather.
We were short on numbers today with a few of our number opting to play in a match and some drop-outs.
We had the pleasure of Andy in our group today and he was sporting a new putter. It was so new that he still had the plastic cover on it. It's probably just as well as he was NOT the same Andy that turned up last Saturday. His driver seemed to be working ok but the putter was definitely not. It's easy to forget the things that Andy says, particularly as he says so much, but today I'll focus on the first tee. I teed off first and hit a very high drive down the middle of the fairway (yes, down the middle!!) Pete complemented me on the drive saying it looked good, Andy didn't agree, "Did it though?" said Andy sarcastically. I must admit it was strange that it registered with me as my Andy filter had already kicked in at this stage. He thumped one of his best drives also down the middle of the fairway. "Now that looked good!" he said. On arriving at our drives, we discovered he had in fact outdriven me, by about 3 feet. Just goes to show Andy, things aren't always what they seem. Anyway, the new putter wasn't shaving the hole, it wasn't even close to a Brazilian! I think Andy may be exercising his option to return the putter.
Birdies today for Lucky Tone and Martin Lythgoe, both on the 3rd. Well done both.
Our winner today, bringing his A game for the weekend rather than the midweek golf he normally reserves it for, is Lucky Tone with 34 points. Tony's luck ran out on the 18th hole where he finished with a blob on what was otherwise a solid round. Well done Tony.
In second place, you'll need to get up early to beat this guy (actually perhaps not), with 32 points is Martin Deery. Martin used the front 9 to warm up (15) before scoring 17 points on the back 9 to take the brides-maid spot, in the absence of Steve Reynolds of course. Well done Martin.
Front 9 goes to Paul "The Champ" Gardner with 17 points. Well done Paul!
Back 9 goes to Roger Gibbs with 15 on count back from Pete Laurence. Pete's luck just wasn't there today Tony, he asked me to let you know. Well done Roger!
It's the Swindle Challenge next week so good luck all, let's get those average scores up for next week!!
Update from Duncan Miller
Good fun today although my game was massively off, my group had to put up with some bleeping commentary rather than a Rham style rage.
Highlight of the day was the 3rd. Martin and Tony on or nearly on the green with good chances, only bettered by myself stinging it 4/5 feet away. Peter C decided that chopping it 45 degrees right into deep rough was the play, as he casually chipped the other half of the way onto the green.
I then watched Tony hole his birdie from 20 feet from the right, Martin hole his birdie from 10 feet left, Peter hole his par from 8 feet from the front and I stepped up to duly miss my birdie left by millimetres to save us from a conspiracy theory 🤦♂.
Also worth mentioning Martin found a good way to avoid the lower tier on 11 by bouncing his ball off the pin. Sadly missing that birdy putt.
Lucky Tony new he had enough points to win on 18, so chopped his tee shot into the lake by the tee to make sure he didn't damage the handicap too much. 🤣
