Ole ole - ole ole / Ole ole - ole ole, Feeling hot hot hot - Feeling hot hot hot!

Yes it was hot! Thankfully we were playing on Saturday and not Sunday as Sunday forecast shows 27-30 degrees which is just too hot for walking around looking for balls in the rough! Of course it's that time of year when the green keepers are making sure that play is slow and stableford scores are low by letting the grass grow and rolling those greens. We had some respite with the rain in recent weeks but I think we're in for concrete fairways for the next few weeks. Still, life is great when not on the course so best not complain.

This week I had the pleasure of playing at 7am on an unsurprisingly empty course in a 3 ball with only two of the original 4. I was initially very unhappy that I'd volunteered for the switch due to being up late drinking beer the night before but as it warmed up found myself feeling rather smug as I exited the course at around 11am, all be it light on points (sorry fellow BMP team members!)

We spent a fair amount of time looking for balls on the round as that rough is brutal and the hardness of the course coupled with our less than straight shooting resulted in a lot of "just-in's" and a quite a few "that's a goner!"

Coenraad was the star of our group posting 35 points. Some great (and very high) drives and stunning approach shots kept Pete and I going through our time in the rough. Coenraad also spent some time in the rough however, notably on the 16th where he hit a perfectly judged lay-up in front of the bunkers followed by two balls 30 yards into deep rough about 100 yards apart. Coenraad also indicated that he's been experimenting on kids proving that boys are natural risk takers and girls are not. This ground breaking research proved that we were all putting like girls on the way round. For the record, this should be read with a good helping of sarcasm and the words here do not represent anyone's actual viewpoint. Also for the records, Pete and I both played some excellent golf but sadly some less than excellent golf was sent to keep it company.

Birdies aplenty today. Coenraad (8) Pete Laurence (2) Martin Deery (12!) Steve Reynolds (6, 11) Jock Hunter (9) Roger Small (9) and last but not least Lucky Tone (3) Well done all but particularly well done to Martin Deery for a net albatross on 12.

The scoring today was better than I thought it would be given the rough but it was below average with an average stableford score of 28.53

Our winner with a rock solid 36 points was none other than Paul "The Champ" Gardner. Paul is the other side to my see-saw in this competition as we don't seem to be able to both score well in the same round. Thankfully we have Martin Deery this year to bring up the average. His score was in fact the average of mine and Paul's scores! Well done Paul, good job!

Now, those sharp-eyed amongst you may have been thinking our second place this week was Andy Simpkin. Most of you will be happy to hear that I hadn't entered Coenraad's last score so it is actually Coenraad (Sorry Andy!) Coenraad scored a near perfect 35 points. He is going to adjust his driver to be less lofty and he's decided it will work better as a driver than a driving wedge!! Well done Coenraad.

The inclusion of Coenraad's final hole score relegated Andy Simpkin to winning the back 9 with 20 points. Apologies to Martin Deery who was relegated to no prize as a result of Andy's relegation (Every silver lining has a cloud Martin!) Well done Andy!

Finally Steve "the Bridesmaid" Reynolds takes the front 9 with 17 points despite a ropey start. Well done Steve.

Enjoy the good weather, looks like we're in for a few weeks of sunshine.
