Puzzled? That's what Paul Gardner is this weekend. Rather than join us for a cheeky bank holiday Monday round, Paul "has" to attend the international puzzle festival in Harpenden. He says it's for charity but we know that Paul just loves a puzzle!

I was a little nervous today after the seventh hole when Tony announced to the group that he would need to slip inside me, I'm not sure what he meant exactly but it definitely threw me off balance a little.

Today the conditions were challenging and some struggled to keep their rounds going. Personally I found the hard ground a long rough a terrible combination on a number of holes and after hitting Roger Gibb's ball rather than my own on the 9th hole my scoring suffered due to this. I was being named Houdini on a number of holes though; on 2 I hit my tee shot into the woods, was helped to find the ball by Richard then chipped out and up and down for a par. Likewise on the 3rd I hit the ball way left and managed a lovely up and down to leave a short put for par. Richard on the other hand struggled all over but particularly with the putter, lipping out became a bit of a speciality this round.

Birdies today for Martin Lythgoe (5, 17) Martin Deery (8) and Richard Hyne (18) Well done gents.

Our winner today was first in the club house and maintained, Paul Gardner takes the honours with 40 points! Well done Paul, shame you couldn't contribute that one when we were Summer Leaguing!!

In second place with 39 points is Peter Creighton. Peter must've thought 39 points would be enough for the top prize but it seems it rarely is these days.

In 3rd place and winner of the front 9 is Roger Gibbs. Thank goodness Roger takes a prize today as 19 out and in would normally be good enough to take at least second place but not today. Roger consoles himself with the front 9. Well done Roger.

The back 9 went to Pete Laurence with 18 points on countback from none other than Lucky Tone. LT missed out on a 1st/2nd with 36 points and F9 and B9 by a point and on countback. Well done PL, unlucky LT.

Have a great bank holiday and feel free to join PG at the Jigsaw festival if you're desperate for something to do this bank holiday!
