It was starting to feel a bit more like Autumn this week. The leaves are dropping, there was a damp chill in the air and the ground was damp. The wet weather in the week had triggered the ground keepers to put out the ground protection ropes so a few extra yards added for the majority of us non-carriers. Winter rules however are not yet in play. Happily they have cut back some of the rough on the right hand side of the 8th hole, elsewhere however the rough remains challenging.

Not much to remark on today as I missed the banter in the clubhouse due to having to shoot off to watch the latest Bond offering with Mrs G. There was one incident worth mentioning in our group. On the 11th hole I hit my tee shot very high and straight into the first bunker. The lie for the second shot was good but a bunker shot is a bunker shot! I measured the pin at 163 yards so figured that a 7 iron was in order to give myself a chance at getting close. I proceeded to nail the shot but forgetting that I was in a bunker, walked backwards to keep my eyes on where the ball was going, resulting in me planting my derriere on the cold damp edge of the bunker much to Duncan's amusement. Thankfully he wasn't quick enough to get his camera out.

The scoring today ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous with 20 points between 1st and last place so not surprising the average stableford score was only 29.53. The gross scores were however generally quite good with an average of 92.6. There is perhaps a new record today for Roger Small with 8 blobs on the card, still much better final score than Andy's record low though.

Birdies today for Steve Reynolds (18) Richard Hyne (18) James Miller (8) and Jock Hunter (14) Well done Gents, particularly Jock on 14!

Today's winner is Martin Deery who managed 21 out and 19 in for 40 points! Well done Martin, great score.

In second place, who else but Steve Bridesmaid Reynolds with 37 points on countback from Richard Hyne. One point on the back 9 was all it took. Well done Steve.

James Miller took the front 9 with 17 points on countback from Richard Hyne. Well done James.

Richard Hyne took the back 9 with 20 points. Well done Richard.

Good luck next week in the Fox Hunter Trophy. I shall be down in Devon so not able to join in the whisky fuelled revelry but have a great day all those taking part.

See you in a couple of weeks.
