Scores for Saturday 20 November 2021
Only a few more games left to play this year so I thought I'd open with a reminder of the remaining schedule
- Saturday 27 November - Normal Swindle
- Saturday 4 December - Turkey Trot (4 ball stableford, best 3 scores count)
- Saturday 11 December - Christmas Cup and Christmas Lunch
- Saturday 18 December - Last Swindle of 2021
- Saturday 25 December - Christmas day (No swindle)
- Saturday 1 January - New Years Day (No swindle)
The Christmas Cup will be off Swindle Handicaps with NO WIN ADJUSTMENTS applied as per the Autumn Cup. I considered including the statistics in the annual stats but as no win adjustments apply this would give unfair advantage to recent winners in the full year comps, also specific prizes will be awarded for this competition so including the usual £5 would be additional cost to most therefore they will not apply to eclectic, RTDB or POTY statistics.
A grey and gloomy day with a sticky muddy course to contend with reminded me how lucky we are to be able to get out and play golf. This time last year we were struggling with lockdown V2 and looking forward to the hope of getting out on the golf course in December. This year things are still looking quite bleak but at least we're not locked down and at least we can do normal things.
The conditions today were actually near perfect with light wind and double digit temperatures and the soft greens and fairways allow for more aggressive play. Some took advantage of these conditions an there were plenty of birdie opportunities, as illustrated in the picture below. All 4 of our tee shots on 3 found the green, neither managed a birdie but pars all round!
Birdies today were achieved for Coenraad Fourie (14) Stephen Brewerton (5) Roger Gibbs (11) Richard Hyne (8) James Miller (15) and Steve Reynolds (11) Well done all put a special mention to Richard who chipped in on 8 (lucky!) but lipped out on 14 (unlucky) demonstrating that you win some and you lose some.
Our winner this week with 38 points is Coenraad Fourie. Coenraad took 3 weeks off and has come back refreshed just in time to put his feet up for the holidays. Well done Coenraad.
Stephen Brewerton took second place today with 34 points on countback from Roger Gibbs, Roger Small AND yours truly. Well done Stephen!
The front 9 went to Richard Hyne on countback from Roger Small and yours truly. Well done Richard!
The back 9 went to Pete Laurence with 17 points on countback from Roger Gibbs. Well done Pete!
So as the dust settles on all the counting back it's worth noting that Steve (the bridesmaid) Reynolds had a bad round today but couldn't even manage to be the best at coming last. Yes, he came second last today proving that he really is second best even at being the worst.
Have a great week gents, only a few more left in 2021.
