Scores for Saturday 6 November 2021
A more definite feel of winter this week with leaves dropping and a general dampness around the course. Winter rules in play but playing off the white tees for now. The course is starting to show the signs of winter wear following the rain last week and some of the off-fairway conditions are challenging. The positive is the green staff have finally cut some of the rough back so you now have a chance of finding those wayward balls.
Before I get to the scores I have a story from this week's competition courtesy of the Roger "The Count" Small (verbally) and a composition from one of his fellow golfers.
Roger nearly lost his ball on the 2nd but found it to the left of the path and chipped it in for an astronomical 5 points. 5 times Steve's score at that point and infinitely more than Andy who started with 2 blobs after playing like a Muppet.
Andy was lacking a lot of distance and he blamed it on having a screw loose, something his playing partners were well aware of.
There was a few moments where Roger's maths skills were in question but this is not unusual and I understand that they were corrected during the round. Thank you Steve for a story about Roger that managed to be as much about Andy! I've included an appropriate Andy Avatar above. lol
Anyway, the scoring this week was below average with the average stableford score being only 28.27 and only 3 players getting more than 30 points.
Birdies for Roger Small (2) Richard Hyne (10) Pete Laurence (3) Steve Reynolds (9) Martin Lythgoe (5) and James Miller (3 and 15!) Well done all, particularly James on 15.
Our winner this week with 35 points is Roger Small. Well done Roger.
In second place is Andy Simpkin with 32 points. Had it not been for the spectacular start that Andy had (blob, blob) then he may've taken the prize. Well done Andy.
The front 9 went to Martin Lythgoe who shot 17 out before falling apart on the back 9. Well done Martin.
Paul Gardner's metronomic swing was clearly not working on the front 9 but it returned to win him the back 9 with 18 points. Well done Paul.
Have a great week gentlemen.
