Well this reporter doesn't have much to say about the golf this week having struggled to wake up before 10am this morning after getting back home from a party at 3am! Glad I bailed on the 07:40 tee time in the end as I don't think it would have been good for my stats.

Not having experienced today's conditions I can only suppose that they looked like good conditions and the scores generally reflected this. 

A few birdies today: Pete Laurence (9) Steve Brewerton (9) Coenraad Fourie (15) and Paul Gardner (17) Well done gents.

Our winner today with 39 points is Steve Reynolds. Steve seems to be getting the hang of winning these days and with a round of 78 definitely deserved it. Well done Steve.

In second place, snapping at Steve's heals with a solid 38 points is Andy Simpkin. Is Andy going for the bridesmaid spot this year, 2 second places from 2 matches so far! Well done Andy.

Front 9 went to Roger Small who managed 21 points on the front 9 but could only post another 10 on the back 9. Well done Roger.

The spreadsheet was a little confused about the back 9 as it is only setup to do the basic countback at present and Tony and Pete C both got the exact same count back. A bit of research settled it and Peter Creighton takes the back 9 with 18 points on countback from Tony. Unlucky Tony! Well done Peter.

Drive-out and Drive-in cover the next two weeks, enjoy gents and see you all once that's all done with.

Middle of the green today! Windy again today, but that wasn't a problem! A nice warm brisk breeze from the south made it seem like we were driving into the wind for the most part today but we seemed to cope ok with that, it was the greens that were the problem. Even the best puts today were coming up short or swerving from the hole. All of them spent more time in the air than on the ground just bobbling along.  13 players set out today but only 12 returned. Jock was lost somewhere along the way leaving a 2-ball to wait patiently behind our 4 ball. Steve and Martin both made the most of the extra time they had (see below) Average scores were not great: 99.25 average gross score and 26.25 average stableford score. Judging from what I saw the putting was the biggest contributor to extra shots.  Only 2 birdies today. Martin Lythgoe on 10 and Brian Geddes on 18. Well done both! Still the extra time that Steve Reynolds had as a result helped him refocus for his back 9 and he came in...

  Ball hunting was the game this week, at least for some of our number. The rough has thickened given the recent rain and sunshine combination and it's making it very hard to find balls that find their way in, not ideal for our standard of golf. This combined with the firming up of the course would make ideal conditions for our one and only metro-gnome and it looked like he was in the hunt on the front 9 until his groin gave out following the other side effect of good weather, gardening duty. I have a sign for you Paul, refer to it on Thursdays or Fridays.... Anyway rest up and we'll see you back to form in no time.  The weather this week was stunning, summer having followed us back from Menorca, thankfully the wind hasn't followed us! The course is in fantastic shape but they have let the greens grow out a bit making putting pace a bit tricky to judge. I'm sure this resulted in a few shots left out there this week, it did in our group.  Average scores this week reflect...

  Due to Brian moving in the next few weeks the newsletter team is looking for a person to assist with the production of this newsletter, do you have the skills required, a flair for an arty production, at least a grade C in English Language 'O' level or GCSE. Please make contact. No interview required and no remuneration provided, what more could you want? Anyway on to the golf.................... The day started out a bit chilly but turned into a beautiful day. The course was in fabulous condition with the bunkers that were in play in a good state. Lots of work going on around the course with a number of bunkers being worked on and the removal of the old winter green on the second, how many more will disappear I wonder?  A chip in for Andy Simpkin on the 6th to make a par even though it was a thinned shot, but I won't mention that. A monster 50ft putt for Jason on a hole that escapes my memory, told you I would forget by the time I got home Pete L. The average gross score...
