Scores for Saturday 8 January 2022
HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!!
Yes it was a very wet start to the 2022 campaign and it made for a VERY tough round for us mere mortals. It rained pretty much all the way round and by the back 9 there was plenty of standing water on the greens. WHY then did so many people finish!!??
Martin Deery, Tony Froud and John James had the good sense to call it a day after 9 holes. Tony's motives come into question when you look at his front 9 score, more on that soon!
One quite remarkable incident today and sadly I can only give an impression of what happened despite being there as I cannot recall where exactly on the course this happened. Richard eagerly approached the tee box and went through his normal warm up routine then promptly released the club on a practice swing and launched it over to the left of the fairway. Thankfully no-one was hurt in this unusual display of aggression but I'm convinced it impacted my concentration for the rest of the round. Judging by my scorecard, it happened really early on. I wasn't quite quick enough to capture the moment on film but I've managed to find an example from the WWW (obviously not taken today!)
The average gross score was 94.1 today and the average stableford score not surprisingly was down at 28.67
Our winner today was Pete Laurence on countback from Andy Simpkin with 33 points. Well done Pete, a good score in those conditions.!
Andy Simpkin took 2nd place of course with a steady 17 out and 16 back. Well done Andy!
Tony thought he'd done enough on the front 9 and he was right. 20 points pipped Steve Reynolds' 19 points leaving Steve holding yet another BM bouquet! Well done Tony!
Paul Gardner took the back 9 with 14 points which is all Tony needed to win today, unlucky Tony, Well done Paul. The swing was a little less metro-gnomic today but there were flashes of brilliance.
It was hard today but I am happy to have been out playing golf rather than being in lockdown as we were this time last year.
Have a great week gents.
