APEB Scores for Saturday 9 April 2022

I fine spring morning in April, bluebells in flower and 0no rain to contend with but a light north-westerly wind to remind us that winter is only just behind us. Of course everything is starting to grow and that means the rough will start to become a factor soon so we must make hay....

No real stories to report this week except to comment that I personally struggled to avoid trees this weekend on the first 4 holes. From the off, slicing just into the trees on the right of the 1st and having to play out sideways, it was a struggle. Thankfully it didn't continue for the entire round but it definitely set the tone for my round.

Only 11 players this week due to holidays, families and illness.

The advent of spring brings back white tees and no more preferred lies. Most of the bunkers are back in play with a few still needing a little work. The extra yardage definitely created a few problems and the bunkers were a feature of my group and it would seem perhaps the group in front of us also.

Average gross was back up at 94.5 and average stableford was down at 28.27 with less than have the field making 30 or better.

Birdies were also scarce this week with only 3 in the field: Pete Laurence (4, 17) and Richard Hyne (9) Well done both.

First place this week went to Pete Laurence who continued his steady form shooting a steady 33 points despite a number of single point holes. Well done Pete!

Second place went to Roger who like many of us had a poor front 9 with 12 points but unlike most of us romped the back 9 with 20 points, posting a steady 32 points despite blobs on 5, 7, 8 and 9! Well done Roger!

The front 9 went to Peter Creighton who started strong with 18 on the front 9 but fell away on the back 9. Well done Peter!

The back 9 went to Richard Hyne with 18 point despite a blob on the 12th. Well done Richard!

Get well soon John James and Steve Reynolds. Hopefully Steve hasn't infected anyone in his group having tested positive for Covid after the match and hopefully both John and Steve will make a speedy recovery in time for the Easter weekend.

Have a wonderful week gents, looks like it might be warming up again this week.
