Scores for Saturday 14 May 2022
A perfect day with blue skies all the way, little to no wind and the course in great condition. Should mean great scoring right? Well apparently someone forgot to tell the greenkeepers that! The greens today were wonderful but BRUTAL! On the plus side, it was nice to be out in the sunshine and great the company wasn't half bad either.
In our group, Jock was the star of the show, at least the first half of the show anyway. He hobbled onto the first tee, "I've taken some ibuprofen" he said as he gingerly bent down to place a ball on the tee. Beware the injured golfer! He had trouble following through initially but seemed to free up later in the round when he announced that he'd followed through. As Jock is a man of a certain age, we wondered exactly what he was referring to and asked if he needed to go change.
It was a slow round today, I think due to some new members in front of our front group. We waited what seemed a particularly long time on the 14th tee as the first group carefully lined up puts, took out the pin, replace the pin etc. At the end of it all Tony yelled down that they had 4 blobs, "Well that was worth waiting for" I yelled back ironically.
Average gross score was 93.9 today and the average stableford score surprisingly failed to get above 30 points (29.47) The card was looking a bit washed out today due to the number of double bogeys.
Birdies were few and far between with 1 for Pete Laurence (7) and one for Steve Brewerton (12) well done gents.
Our winner today, Andy Simpkin, lumbered round the course to post a 37 despite only managing 1 point on the first two holes. 7 pars and a bunch of bogies was enough to win Andy another winners spot. Well done Andy.
In second place with 34 points, on countback from Jock Hunter is none other than Martin Lythgoe. Martin posts his first points of the season in the POTY race. Well done Martin.
The front 9 went to Jock Hunter with 21 points. A solid front 9 indeed with 5 pars and 4 bogies. Well done Jock, a fine front 9!
The back 9 went to Steve Reynolds with 16 points. Well done Steve.
Early, early start next week for me gents then I'll be off to Devon so the scores may be a bit delayed in posting.
Have a wonderful week gents, enjoy the sunshine.
