Scores for Saturday 24 December 2022 (Christmas Eve!)
Christmas eve 2022, no more lockdowns, no more social distancing, our first "normal" Christmas since before we knew what Covid was. What better way to kick off the festive season than with a near perfect round in somewhat sloppy conditions.
Yes, this report is dedicated to James Miller who managed to go round the course in 72 (+1)
Duncan was keeping an eye on his brother as he posted his scores on this round, calling out that he was -1 after 8 holes but he didn't call out that he was -2 after 6 holes but dropped a shot on the tricky par 3 7th hole! This was the only blemish on his front 9 which included 2 birdies and 6 pars.
James went on to post 7 pars on the back 9 with 2 bogeys on 12 and 16. I'm assuming there were chips involved on these holes James? So -1 out and +2 in proving that the back 9 IS harder than the front 9! (discuss)
Well done James, others did play but even the best of them didn't come close today!
There was talk that perhaps James should be promoted to another league? (discuss)
There were 6 birdies today: James (2, 5) Steve Reynolds (17) Roger Gibbs (17) Pete Laurence (17) and Pete Williams (7) well done gents.
And of course, the other placings....
In second place with 37 points was Paul Gardner. A normally winning score at this time of year following on from his win last time out in the Christmas Cup, unlucky Paul as Lucky TonE would say!
The front 9 went to Peter Williams who posted a solid 18 points. Well done Peter.
The back 9 went to Roger (half round) Gibbs who surely must be up for a special award this year? Well done Roger.
So where does that leave us for POTY, RTDB etc. with one more game to go??
James hasn't quite done enough to bring himself into contention for POTY, Pete Laurence is 7 points ahead of James making it impossible for James to catch him. But...with 5 points up for grabs there are 4 players in with a shout - Pete Laurence of course with 30 points, Andy Simpkin (booooo) with 29 points, Steve Reynolds with 28 points and yours truly with 26 points.
For RTBD there is net +£27 up for grabs next week if no-one drops out meaning that Pete Laurence, James Miller, Andy Simpkin, Steve Reynolds and Roger Gibbs are all in with a shout. Jock would be in with a shout but he's not down to play so better luck next year Jock!
Steve Reynolds is in the top spot with 60 points. James Miller and Steve Brewerton are breathing down his neck with 62 points. If I post 5 birdies, I might even be in with a shout of sharing the spoils (lol)
Roger Small tops the Eclectic Stableford with 64 points with me snapping at his heals with 63 points.
So, plenty of interest for the last game of the year next week.
Enjoy your Christmas break gents!
