Scores for Saturday 8 April 2023
Well spring is definitely here but you cannot legislate for a bit of early morning fog. The weather has not been kind this winter and there's been a sting in the tail these past few weeks. Rain cancellation last week followed by fog delays this week left a few feeling a little frustrated. Coenraad for instance chose to be in Serbia rather than turn up, obviously had some insider knowledge being a local!
Anyway 12 intrepid die-hards stuck it out and finally teed off after about 2 hours delay. Once the fog lifted it was a beautiful day but the golf was less so. Perhaps all the waiting around upset the pre-match routines but the scoring was not great. Average stableford score was down at 27.75 and average gross score up at 94.3.
There were only 3 birdies today: James (6,7) and Pete Laurence (13) Well done both.
Our winner today had a practice round with yours truly on good Friday and it clearly paid off. James went round in 79 to score 34 points. He was 1 under after 6 holes but managed to blob the 7th and 9th to post a respectable +3 netting 18 points out. Thankfully he only needed 15 in and managed to give himself an extra 1 point cushion over the field. Well done James!
Roger Gibbs on the comeback trail managed 14 out and 18 back to post 32 points stealing second place. 32 points would normally have forced him to make do with his favourite back 9 but seeing as no-one else "turned up" he takes the bridesmaid spot. Well done Roger!
The Front 9 was taken by Richard Hyne with 15 points on countback from Pete Laurence. I can assure you there was nothing remarkable about either of these front 9s but they were both 6 points better than me on the turn so maybe they were remarkable scores! Well done Richard, unlucky Pete!
Yours truly took the back 9 with 17 points on countback from Paul Gardner. Well done me!
A few weeks break now with the spring cup followed by the JJ cup. Have a great week gents and enjoy the bank holiday weekend (and the Masters final day!)
