Gordon the gopher broke his silence this weekend and went on record to state that he allowed someone to insert a hand in order to get off the blocks in the early stages of his career. He said "things were just different in those days, you did what you had to in order to get on television even if it left you with long term issues. I mean, I struggled to walk most days but how else was a gopher going to get a decent start in life." Disappointing revelations indeed!

In other news, the turnout this week was low and so were the stableford scores. Only 3 golfers managed the heady heights of 30 plus. Wayward shots were punished with thick rough or thick woodland areas and the bunkers still need some work to get back to somewhere near playable. On the plus side, the greens are nice and short and were rolled before play so were very quick. They were a pleasure to play but difficult to score on with uphill shots coming up short and downhill shots flying on past the hole. 

There were only 3 birdies today, all from Peter Williams (9, 6, 17) Well done Peter!

Our winner this week was Coenraad Fourie with 35 points. He was happy to get away from being driven around with L plates on to driving around the fairway. Obviously the warmer conditions suit him and a normally ordinary score was made to look good by the rest of the field. Well done Coenraad.

In second place, despite 3 birdies in one round, Peter Williams could only manage 33 points. This was enough to take the bridesmaid spot with Paul Gardner the next best with 31 points. Well done Peter.

The front 9 went to Steve Reynolds. Steve shot 19 points out before falling apart on the back 9 with a point per hole on average. 

The back 9 went to Steve Brewerton with 17 points. Well done Steve. 

AndMe's lowest ever score was under serious threat from yours truly this week. I only managed 5 points on the front 9 but took a breath and refocused to break through 13 points on the 13th hole. I think I relaxed a bit too much after this point as I only managed another 5 points on the last 6 holes. A bad day at the office indeed.

Rain, what rain? Well I think that is the wettest front 9 I've ever played and it was not easy. the course was squelchy under foot and it made for hard going especially on the greens. Still, 11 of us were not deterred, despite forecasts of heavy rain until 10am, a die-hard group turned out to wade around the course.  The rain did eventually stop and our back 9 was far more enjoyable than the front 9.  There were some birdies out there today, all on the back 9. Steve Reynolds (11) James Miller (18) and Peter Williams (14) Well done gents.  Our winner today turned out for once not having double booked (At least if he did double book he forgot and came to golf anyway!) Martin Lythgoe scored 33 points to win on countback from Steve Reynolds. Well done Martin.  Yes, that's right, Steve predictably came second with 33 points. Middle of the green today! Windy again today, but that wasn't a problem! A nice warm brisk breeze from the south made it seem like we were driving into the wind for the most part today but we seemed to cope ok with that, it was the greens that were the problem. Even the best puts today were coming up short or swerving from the hole. All of them spent more time in the air than on the ground just bobbling along.  13 players set out today but only 12 returned. Jock was lost somewhere along the way leaving a 2-ball to wait patiently behind our 4 ball. Steve and Martin both made the most of the extra time they had (see below) Average scores were not great: 99.25 average gross score and 26.25 average stableford score. Judging from what I saw the putting was the biggest contributor to extra shots.  Only 2 birdies today. Martin Lythgoe on 10 and Brian Geddes on 18. Well done both! Still the extra time that Steve Reynolds had as a result helped him refocus for his back 9 and he came in our

Well it was quite cold this week and that made for some quite random golf. The first hold didn't bode well for Duncan and I as he did his usual grass cutter to the top of the fairway and I sliced into the trees on the right, clearly we both needed to warm up. We found my ball in the leaves with no real back swing. Foolishly I tried to take a shot but managed to bury the ball somewhere directly in front of me. Sadly Pete Laurence didn't follow me in this week to find my ball. Hey ho. Only one birdie this week and it goes to Peter Creighton on 3. Apparently he chipped in from the bunker, clearly preferring that shot to taking relief for the out of play bunkers. Still, no pictures on the scorecard hey Pete? Well done! Scoring was very difficult in the conditions with good shots being punished for accuracy (hitting the green) and some middle of the fairway shots bouncing unkindly left or right to finish in the deep rough. Average gross score was 95 and average stableford was 27.69,
