Chip 'n was the name of the game today with at least 4 players deciding that if the greens are going to be quick, why bother using them at all! My chip on the first started things off, a perfect drive down the middle coming to rest in the rough just beyond the path, a slightly wayward pitching wedge pin high to the right of the green sitting on a nice hard piece of dirt and a perfect chip that bounced once and rolled in at pace. Jock found himself in the rough near the tree just shy of the green on 8 and did an almost identical shot. Both shots for were for Birdie. Later in the day Roger Small "rocketed" a chip in on the 5th and Martin Deery holed from 50 yards on the 12th. Both of these remarkable shots were good enough for 3 points each making at least 15 points without use of the putter!

The conditions were quite tricky, especially for James it seems who shot around 15 shots over his average round. Hitting the fairway gives no certainty of a straight bounce and many excellent shots were rewarded today with somewhat less than fair outcomes. That said, half the field managed 30 or more and a few found conditions very much to their liking and James still managed a birdie on 11 meaning AndMe's lowest score was safe once more.

There were 6 birdies today: Brian (1) Jock (8) Paul Gardner (12) and James Miller (11)

Paul Gardner was the star of the show today shooting 20 points out and 24 points in, more than James on each 9 there Paul. An +10 round netted 44 points, not bad at all for a 19 handicapper. Pity he couldn't save that one for a Summer League weekend though! Well done Paul, excellent round.

Roger Small took second place with 39 points including the rocket on 5 described above. Well done Roger!

Martin Deery took the front 9 with 19 points. His 19 points on the back 9 wasn't enough to get him into the top two spots this time round, 38 points would've been enough in recent weeks for sure, this score would also have been useful for our Summer League team! Well done Martin.

The back 9 went to John James with 17 points. John took a while to warm up today but got his eye by the 11th hole to take a share of the spoils. Well done John.

Club champs next week. The lower handicappers are out early on day 1 and the leaders out last on day 2 so I'm looking forward to a nice lie-in on Saturday followed by an early start/bath on Sunday. Have a great week all and good luck to all those taking part next week.
