It's official, summer is here finally! On course this means that the ball is rolling on, the rough is long, the greens are fast and scoring is more difficult for most. Add to this a bit of wind and you can be sure that average scores will be lower.

I was out in the earlier group today so no anecdotes from Aldwickbury to share except perhaps how many puts Martin Lythgoe nearly sunk. He missed at least half a dozen, with about 3 coming up around 1/2 inch short and the rest touching the edge of the hole. If he had sunk 6 of these it still wouldn't have been enough for 1st or 2nd place from his fellow early starters.

The average stableford score this week was better than last week at 29.33, perhaps demonstrating that we're getting used to the course conditions. 8 out of the 16 players managed 30 or more and JJ was on course to do so had he been able to complete the full 18 holes. Our average gross score was a respectable 94.7.

There were 5 birdies this week: Peter Williams (11, 16) Paul Gardner (9) and Steve Reynolds (3, 9) well done gents

Our winner this week is Peter Williams with 39 points! Pete went out in 19 and back in 20 and he played some excellent golf all round. His birdie on 11 was particularly good as he played a provisional thinking his ball may be lost in the rough to the right of the fairway bunkers, found the ball and played a fantastic recovery shot to setup the birdie opportunity. Well done Peter.

In second place Paul Gardner managed 37 points. Paul also played some excellent golf and was in pole position on the turn with 20 points and his back 9 was only let down by hitting his second shot OB on the 18th hole. His 17 back wasn't enough to beat Peter in such excellent form. Well done Paul.

The front 9 went to Steve Reynolds who beat Martin Deery on countback. Steve managed a very solid 36 points which would've easily taken the prize in recent weeks. Well done Steve.

The back 9 went to Tony Froud with 18 points. Only Peter Williams was able to match Tony's back 9 effort so I guess Tony was lucky that Peter took the top spot! Well done Tony.

Swindle challenge next week so good luck with that gents. I shall be taking a break from golf to have a go at Croquet in Sussex. Have a great week all.
