Scores for Saturday July 8th 2023

 Eight of them arrived, Early Birds elite

Apparently, there are others, who can’t handle the heat

Tennis, chores, and other golf stuff

Are the excuses they made for not being tough

 

The elite all set off, under threat of a storm

No fear for them, with the strength they were born

Whether grip it and rip or nudge it along

It could only go right, unless it went wrong

 

James was first, the elite of elite

Sadly though lately his golf’s not so sweet

Four pars on the front, instead of six

Only two on the back, he’s not in the mix

 

Pete C next, he’s hanging tough

Keeping in the short stuff and out of the rough

After three holes he’s starting to shine

But then he gets bored and gives up after nine.

 

Hey diddle diddle

Martin L playing fiddle

And singing in dodgy pubs

His golf was steady

But he just wasn’t ready

And his bag ran away with his clubs

 

With swing metronomic

And power economic

And wearing a Trilby hat

Paul swung divine

And won the back nine

And that was the end of that

 

Pete W, oh dear, what can we say

He can swing it and bring and bang it away

But also muff it and fluff it, with no curds and whey

Just not good enough it wasn’t his day

 

Steve reached for the stars

With a birdie and five pars

To win the front nine today

But despite and few highs

A storm came from the skies

And his form was all washed away

 

Showing talent and wealth

Martin takes out his stealth

And hits it with ‘Far-giveness’ on side

He stealthily prances

A win he perchances

But with second he still has his pride

 

With youthful vigour, he just hits it bigger

Than anyone else of his time

He hits with a draw, and his putts go in more

Than could ever be explained in a rhyme

He’s the elite of elite

So please get to your feet

And applaud Pete L, today’s elite winner

If you think you’re the best

And you fancy a test

You’ll be sorry, he’ll eat you for dinner
