Scores for Saturday 16 September 2023
Firstly, apologies for the glitch in the scorecards today on the round. In my holiday fog a couple of weeks ago I forgot to clear down the sheets. As you cannot action the clear macro from iOS devices I had to clear down manually before the first tee, it went a little bit wonky, a bit like my first few drives!!
The picture was for Martin Lythgoe. On the front 7 holes he was scoring well, playing in the monthly medal which is typically a bad move. He scored badly on 8 and 9 then lost his ball on 10 and killed the round altogether. Those of you who know Martin well will know that he loses his sense of humour and is generally really bad company when he's playing well and the front 9 today reaffirmed his grumpy status. Once he'd killed his round on 8-10 he lightened up significantly and was really good company for the rest of the round. I asked him about this behaviour on 13 and he explained that he is like Tiger Woods when he's in the zone!!
Now I may have chosen to take a particular interpretation and misunderstood the intention of Martin's remark but it's generally more fun when you do, something that front 9 Martin could learn from.
A small field today with a few of the big hitters out of action. Get well soon Duncan, hopefully it's a minor illness.
We had 11 players so a great opportunity for all to bag some of those all important RTDB and POTY points. The average score was down at 30.8 despite 7 out of 11 players scoring 32 points or more. Martin Deery's attempt at beating Andy by only playing the back 9 only failed by a couple of points didn't count but Andy and Coenraad conspired to bring down the average.
The back 9 generally scored better today, perhaps because of the low sun impacting people on the front 9. Our group got round super quick today and we were off the course well before midday. Hopefully the later groups didn't get too warm.
3 Birdies today: Steve Reynolds (16), Roger Small (10) and Martin Lythgoe (16) Well done gents!
I almost had a birdie from about 100 yards on 12 today, it hit the pin and landed a few feet from the hole - no pics on a scorecard I know!
The scores were very tight at the top of the leader-board today. We had 2 players with 35, 3 with 34 and 2 with 32 points.
Our winner (on countback) today, Lucky TonE was lucky enough to play better on the back 9 than the front resulting in a win on countback. Well done TonE, nice for you to have a bit of luck for a change!
In second place, normal service is resumed, Steve "bridesmaid" Reynolds with 34 points. Steve was on the charge but collapsed on the last 2 holes resulting in a countback being required. Well done Steve! Steve now moves to the top of the POTY and RTDB leader-boards, satisfyingly bumping AndMe into second spot on the POTY table!
The front 9, also on countback (from Steve Brewerton this time) goes to Paul Gardner. Well done Paul.
The back 9 goes exclusively to me with 22 points. Hard to believe that I was concerned about not beating Andme's lowest ever score with only 3 points after 5 holes! Well done me.
Only two weeks to go until the APEB Early Birds Autumn Cup and the second most important tournament, the Ryder Cup!!
Have a great week gents, see you next week.
