As the women's team battled day 2 to draw level in the Solheim Cup 15 Early birders set out to enjoy some fair conditions and a pleasant round of golf at Aldwickbury Park. A few of us were clearly saving ourselves for the APEB Autumn cup next weekend and perhaps the AP Autumn cup the following week, let's hope that strategy works out for them!

Average gross score was 94.8 this week and Stableford was 29.27. No spectacular scores probably due to the conditions of the course changing to much softer catching people out. 

There were 5 birdies today: Peter Williams (12) Coenraad Fourie (16) Pete Laurence (14) James Miller (9) and Roger Small (7) Well done gents

Our winner today was no doubt making good use of the good quality lake balls he prefers, Peter Williams posted a round of 85 to take first place with 35 points. Well done Peter.

In second place, inspired by the excellent golf he no doubt witnessed at Wentworth last week, sporting some excellent new garb I might add, Richard Hyne posted 83 gross, 34 Stableford. Well done Richard, a very steady round with some excellent shots. 

Martin Deery hit the front 9 hard with 20 points but couldn't quite keep it going for 18. Well done Martin. 

Coenraad Fourie scored exactly the reverse to Martin manging to take the back 9 with 20 points. Well done Coenraad. Perhaps you and Martin should team up for the Autumn Cup?

A mention for Martin Lythgoe who had an excellent front 9 and a decent round but managed to miss out on second by a couple of shots and the front 9 by a shot. Finishing 3rd with nothing to show for it definitely smarts a bit. Unlucky Martin!

Middle of the green today! Windy again today, but that wasn't a problem! A nice warm brisk breeze from the south made it seem like we were driving into the wind for the most part today but we seemed to cope ok with that, it was the greens that were the problem. Even the best puts today were coming up short or swerving from the hole. All of them spent more time in the air than on the ground just bobbling along.  13 players set out today but only 12 returned. Jock was lost somewhere along the way leaving a 2-ball to wait patiently behind our 4 ball. Steve and Martin both made the most of the extra time they had (see below) Average scores were not great: 99.25 average gross score and 26.25 average stableford score. Judging from what I saw the putting was the biggest contributor to extra shots.  Only 2 birdies today. Martin Lythgoe on 10 and Brian Geddes on 18. Well done both! Still the extra time that Steve Reynolds had as a result helped him refocus for his back 9 and he came in...

  Ball hunting was the game this week, at least for some of our number. The rough has thickened given the recent rain and sunshine combination and it's making it very hard to find balls that find their way in, not ideal for our standard of golf. This combined with the firming up of the course would make ideal conditions for our one and only metro-gnome and it looked like he was in the hunt on the front 9 until his groin gave out following the other side effect of good weather, gardening duty. I have a sign for you Paul, refer to it on Thursdays or Fridays.... Anyway rest up and we'll see you back to form in no time.  The weather this week was stunning, summer having followed us back from Menorca, thankfully the wind hasn't followed us! The course is in fantastic shape but they have let the greens grow out a bit making putting pace a bit tricky to judge. I'm sure this resulted in a few shots left out there this week, it did in our group.  Average scores this week reflect...

  Due to Brian moving in the next few weeks the newsletter team is looking for a person to assist with the production of this newsletter, do you have the skills required, a flair for an arty production, at least a grade C in English Language 'O' level or GCSE. Please make contact. No interview required and no remuneration provided, what more could you want? Anyway on to the golf.................... The day started out a bit chilly but turned into a beautiful day. The course was in fabulous condition with the bunkers that were in play in a good state. Lots of work going on around the course with a number of bunkers being worked on and the removal of the old winter green on the second, how many more will disappear I wonder?  A chip in for Andy Simpkin on the 6th to make a par even though it was a thinned shot, but I won't mention that. A monster 50ft putt for Jason on a hole that escapes my memory, told you I would forget by the time I got home Pete L. The average gross score...
