Scores for Saturday 30 September 2023
A perfect day for golf following an almost perfect start to the 2023 Ryder Cup. Europe ahead 6 1/2 to 1 1/2 after day 1 and we all felt like a bit of Rahm magic was on the cards as we started off the day. In truth we were a bit more like the US as a group with people dropping out at the last minute probably protecting themselves for the big Red/Blue match-up tomorrow morning at Wokefield Park and confusion about who was joining which group as we kicked off.
Steve B and myself both started as we meant to go on both blobbing the first hole although Steve managed a bit of low handicapper luck on the second. His second shot found the tree to the left on the approach to the green, a fairly hefty clunk suggested we'd find the ball somewhere level the tree. We scouted around unsuccessfully for a couple of minutes before Pete Creighton realised there was an extra ball at the back of the green. Yes, it was Steve's ball and he'd managed to ricochet onto the green in regulation. A par followed and all was well.
Average scores were not great today with Gross average up at 95.2 and stableford down at 29.08.
There were 8 birdies out there today, not surprising given the benign conditions: Steve Reynolds (9) Pete Laurence (3) Jock Hunter (1) Coenraad Fourie (4) Steve Brewerton (18) and James Miller (5) Well done all.
Our winner today is coming back into form, not quite at his best but good enough to beat Pete Laurence on count-back with 33 points. Congratulations Steve Reynolds, surely feels better than second spot I'm sure.
Pete Laurence will be ruing the blobs on 12 and 17 which handed victory to Steve but manages to hold on to second place. Well done Pete.
The front 9 goes to Coenraad Fourie. Coenraad managed 21 points on the front 9 and stuck with numbers ending in one for the back 9 (11) Well done Coenraad
Jock Hunter wins the back 9 with 15 points leaving a few of us regretting the missed shots which could've left us with the point. Well done Jock.
See you tomorrow those taking part (come on you reds!!) Good luck next week for those taking part in the other Autumn Cup. Have a great week all.
