A token guard of honour from myself and Tony to send James on his way for the last round of the year. Congratulations James on a great year of golf!

In the week I put in some extra investigative work to discover James' secret and I can reveal that at this time of year it's simply a matter of play whenever you can and don't be deterred by the conditions. Rain, sunshine, wind.... moonlight!? Yes, here is a pic of James teeing off under the moonlight on Friday morning. A determined golfer indeed.

This week there was a good turnout despite the constantly dreary conditions of late. We had 17 players turn out although I took an executive decision and discarded John's score as he clearly didn't make the front 9. Martin Deery made the front 9 but I'm assuming he didn't finish the back 9.

Slightly better scoring than last week with stableford average of 27.75 and gross average of 95.6. We did have 7 players with 30 or more this week but the range for those players was only 3 points.

There were 3 birdies this week: James Miller (14) Steve Brewerton (2) and Roger Gibbs (3) - Roger nearly had a hole in one by his own account.

Coffees on Rog?

Our winner to finish the year was Martin Lythgoe with 32 on countback from Peter Williams. Both players started slowly but finished strong. Martin achieved this despite feeling a bit under the weather. I'm sure he was also giving up some other opportunity to join us, wonder if he's realised what he was double booked for yet? Well done Martin.

Of course Peter Williams takes second place. Peter has been a great addition to the group in his first year and has been pretty consistent throughout. Well done Peter.

Duncan, Pete Laurence, Pete Creighton and Andy Simpkin all missed out on the second place spot by 1 point.

The front 9 went to Steve Brewerton with 17 points. Well done Steve.

The back 9 went to James Miller finishing the year strongly with a solid 18 point (+2 gross.) Well done James, a great end to a great year.

So Andy and Paul were unable to upset Steve (Bridesmaid) Reynolds from his second place in POTY despite Steve having man flu. Congratulations Steve.

Peter Williams did however bump Steve off his second place in the RTDB so no clean sweep there for Steve. Congratulations Peter.

A full round up of the year will be in our annual TP call which we'll organise once Duncan has worked his magic with the numbers.

It was an enjoyable finish to an enjoyable year. This year the weather has left a lot to be desired, hopefully we can start 2024 with some better conditions.
