Scores for Saturday 19 October 2024
Thanks to Richard for entering five of our swindle into the Fox Hunter Cup scheduled for two weeks time even though the entry had closed. Although it's good to have Richard on the inside so to speak, we should try and enter in a timely manner. Our website with availability normally shows upcoming club events so there is really no excuse.
Thanks also to me for organizing the 2025 Autumn Cup, sixteen of us are off to Wokefield Park.
Welcome to Dan Smith, his first day with the Swindle, only managed to play nine holes as apparently Watford were playing Luton which was more fun than playing golf with us. Not sure the 3-0 to Luton was fun though. One score down and only two to go before Dan can start competing for prizes.
The new bunkers are progressing well, some even with sand in. I presume it will be a while before we get to test them as the grass around them needs time to settle in. They do look fabulous though.
Anyway onto the golf.
The day started wet and stayed like that for the first 9 holes. Despite the rain there were several good scores on the front nine, with the eventual winner, Martin Lythgoe, scoring 21 points. Well done Martin on the win.
Playing with Roger Gibbs we all thought he had a good chance of a win after a front nine of 20 points, he even mentioned that he was good in the rain and had been called Rain Man in the past.
Excellent birdie for Andrew Simpkin on hole 7, sinking a long putt.
Quite a slow round today with our first group holding us all up. Richard only completed six holes and decided to call it a day due to the wet weather and no umbarella, he was a solid level twos until then.
Best gross of the day was from Peter Williams with 81. A good score considering the conditions.
There were 0 Eagles or better today.
There were 4 birdies today.
Peter Williams with 1 on hole 12.
Andrew Simpkin with 1 on hole 7.
James Miller with 1 on hole 12.
Steve Reynolds with 1 on hole 12.
Our winner today with 39 points was Martin Lythgoe.
In second place on 36 points was Peter Williams.
The front 9 went to Roger Gibbs with 20 points.
The back 9 went to Pete Laurence with 19 points.
