Today was the Earlybirds Christmas party, pleasant weather greeted the golfers with the Sun actually coming out to warm us up towards the end of the round.

The question on everybody's lips was could Paul Gardner win for a third year in a row. Rumour has it he was allowed to win in previous years as nobody wanted to arrange the following year's party. This year Paul was drawn in the last group to make it harder for the other players to watch his score.

Paul was drawn with Peter C and Luck Tony. Tony playing a very steady round until he somewhat collapsed on the last, probably worrying that he may win. He managed to grab second place on count back from Roger Gibbs, three player tied on 35 points. Paul tried his best but low scores on 8, 9, 10 and 11 put paid to his chances.

Our winner today and with the pleasure of booking next year goes to Coenraad. A solid 35 points to beat Roger G and Tony on countback.

First place Coenraad, winning £50 of vouchers for the Pro Shop.
Second Place Tony, winning an Aldwickbury Park Golf Club crested golf Towel.
Front Nine went to Roger small, winning an Aldwickbury Park Golf Club  crested golf Towel.
Back Nine went to Andy Simpkin, winning an Aldwickbury Park Golf Club  crested golf Towel.

Nearest the pin on the 3rd was Duncan winning a drum of chocolates. Paul had a valiant effort here, on line for the pin but finished one foot short of the putting surface.

Longest drive on the 5th went to Steve B winning a drum of chocolates. Paul had a valiant effort here, the fairway being extremely narrow and he missed the fairway by one inch, a drive which may have won it. I guess others could say the same.

Nearest the pin on the 7th which should have been the 17th but an admin error by the club put it on the 7th, This was won by Jason winning a drum of chocolates.

Nearest the pin in two on the 18th was Coenraad winning a drum of chocolates.

All prizes were well received.

Shot of the day was from Peter Creighton who hit a second shot on the 10th that ended up at the base of a tree on the left of the green. He proceeded to play it back handed with the ball landing on the green. He then sunk a long put to walk of with a par 4. The video is a reenactment as we thought it was worth showing to you all.



Could to see Steve Reynolds for the meal. Hope the shoulder improves for the New Year, although pulling the Christmas cracker may have set him back a few weeks.

A few absentees today. John James couldn't make lunch nor the golf, he sent his apologies. Peter Laurence played the golf but unfortunately was harbouring a chest infection which he did not want to spread so he skipped the meal, get well soon Peter. Richard Hyne a bout of Man Flu so didn't play, get well soon Richard.

Peter W,  Jock played golf but didn't stay for the meal and Dan had a works party the night before so did not feel he would be a good condition so didn't join us.



The average gross score today was 92.13 points and the average Stableford score was 30.81.

Best gross of the day was from James Miller with 82.

There were 0 Eagles or better today.

There were 3 birdies today.

Coenraad Fourie with 1 on hole 13.
James Miller with 1 on hole 9.
Jock Hunter with 1 on hole 8.

Our winner today with 35 points was Coenraad Fourie.
In second place on 35 points was Tony Froud.
The front 9 went to Roger Small with 19 points.
The back 9 went to Andrew Simpkin with 19 points.

Middle of the green today! Windy again today, but that wasn't a problem! A nice warm brisk breeze from the south made it seem like we were driving into the wind for the most part today but we seemed to cope ok with that, it was the greens that were the problem. Even the best puts today were coming up short or swerving from the hole. All of them spent more time in the air than on the ground just bobbling along.  13 players set out today but only 12 returned. Jock was lost somewhere along the way leaving a 2-ball to wait patiently behind our 4 ball. Steve and Martin both made the most of the extra time they had (see below) Average scores were not great: 99.25 average gross score and 26.25 average stableford score. Judging from what I saw the putting was the biggest contributor to extra shots.  Only 2 birdies today. Martin Lythgoe on 10 and Brian Geddes on 18. Well done both! Still the extra time that Steve Reynolds had as a result helped him refocus for his back 9 and he came in...

  Ball hunting was the game this week, at least for some of our number. The rough has thickened given the recent rain and sunshine combination and it's making it very hard to find balls that find their way in, not ideal for our standard of golf. This combined with the firming up of the course would make ideal conditions for our one and only metro-gnome and it looked like he was in the hunt on the front 9 until his groin gave out following the other side effect of good weather, gardening duty. I have a sign for you Paul, refer to it on Thursdays or Fridays.... Anyway rest up and we'll see you back to form in no time.  The weather this week was stunning, summer having followed us back from Menorca, thankfully the wind hasn't followed us! The course is in fantastic shape but they have let the greens grow out a bit making putting pace a bit tricky to judge. I'm sure this resulted in a few shots left out there this week, it did in our group.  Average scores this week reflect...

  Due to Brian moving in the next few weeks the newsletter team is looking for a person to assist with the production of this newsletter, do you have the skills required, a flair for an arty production, at least a grade C in English Language 'O' level or GCSE. Please make contact. No interview required and no remuneration provided, what more could you want? Anyway on to the golf.................... The day started out a bit chilly but turned into a beautiful day. The course was in fabulous condition with the bunkers that were in play in a good state. Lots of work going on around the course with a number of bunkers being worked on and the removal of the old winter green on the second, how many more will disappear I wonder?  A chip in for Andy Simpkin on the 6th to make a par even though it was a thinned shot, but I won't mention that. A monster 50ft putt for Jason on a hole that escapes my memory, told you I would forget by the time I got home Pete L. The average gross score...
