Today was the last swindle game of the year so it brings a close to the competitions we run during the year.

We had a good turn out of twelve players today with a few drop outs due to illness. Hope you all get better for the New Year. 

Weather was good with no wind to speak of and also no rain. The course was difficult as worm casts meant even landing on the fairway was a lottery this making it difficult finding a good lie.

A few notable moments from my group, Coenraad on the 1st moving between the two greenside bunkers narrowly missing Peter C on the way and James birdying the 1st. James scoring an Eagle on the 12th with a great putt then followed with a chip in on the 13th for a par. Coenraad also chipping in on the 10th from the right hand side of the green, a fast moving ball bounced once and then hit the flag and dropped in the hole.  

Our winner this week was Peter Creighton who has had a great year. Roger Gibbs had a solid back nine going but did not score on 18 so let the win slip. Richard Hyne was joined on 30 points by two other players but won second on count back. Paul G taking the front nine helped out by Peter C winning as Peter had a slightly better front nine.

And so we come to the winners of this year's competitions.

Player of the year    

Peter Creighton had a great year and won with 38 points, nine points ahead of Brain. Third was Steve Reynolds. Both Brain and Steve have not played towards the end of the year, one moving away to Devon and the other due to injury. 

Race to de Bar

Peter Creighton winning with £102, Brian on £51 and Steve Reynolds on £43.

Gross Eclectic

Won by James Miller scoring one of only two Eagle made this year, Steve Reynolds the other Eagle.

Stableford Eclectic

Won by Brian Geddes with Peter Creighton in second. Two five points this year from Peter Creighton and Steve Reynolds.

Hope you all have a great New Year, I am sure we will have a Zoom call in the New Year and Duncan will present this year statistics and his normal humorous style.

The average gross score today was 94.42 points and the average Stableford score was 26.92.

Best gross of the day was from James Miller with 83.

There were 1 Eagles or better today.

James Miller with 1 on hole 12.

There were 2 birdies today.

Richard Hyne with 1 on hole 12.
James Miller with 1 on hole 1.

Our winner today with 31 points was Peter Creighton.
In second place on 30 points was Richard Hyne.
The front 9 went to Paul Gardner with 17 points.
The back 9 went to Roger Gibbs with 17 points.

Middle of the green today! Windy again today, but that wasn't a problem! A nice warm brisk breeze from the south made it seem like we were driving into the wind for the most part today but we seemed to cope ok with that, it was the greens that were the problem. Even the best puts today were coming up short or swerving from the hole. All of them spent more time in the air than on the ground just bobbling along.  13 players set out today but only 12 returned. Jock was lost somewhere along the way leaving a 2-ball to wait patiently behind our 4 ball. Steve and Martin both made the most of the extra time they had (see below) Average scores were not great: 99.25 average gross score and 26.25 average stableford score. Judging from what I saw the putting was the biggest contributor to extra shots.  Only 2 birdies today. Martin Lythgoe on 10 and Brian Geddes on 18. Well done both! Still the extra time that Steve Reynolds had as a result helped him refocus for his back 9 and he came in...

  Ball hunting was the game this week, at least for some of our number. The rough has thickened given the recent rain and sunshine combination and it's making it very hard to find balls that find their way in, not ideal for our standard of golf. This combined with the firming up of the course would make ideal conditions for our one and only metro-gnome and it looked like he was in the hunt on the front 9 until his groin gave out following the other side effect of good weather, gardening duty. I have a sign for you Paul, refer to it on Thursdays or Fridays.... Anyway rest up and we'll see you back to form in no time.  The weather this week was stunning, summer having followed us back from Menorca, thankfully the wind hasn't followed us! The course is in fantastic shape but they have let the greens grow out a bit making putting pace a bit tricky to judge. I'm sure this resulted in a few shots left out there this week, it did in our group.  Average scores this week reflect...

  Due to Brian moving in the next few weeks the newsletter team is looking for a person to assist with the production of this newsletter, do you have the skills required, a flair for an arty production, at least a grade C in English Language 'O' level or GCSE. Please make contact. No interview required and no remuneration provided, what more could you want? Anyway on to the golf.................... The day started out a bit chilly but turned into a beautiful day. The course was in fabulous condition with the bunkers that were in play in a good state. Lots of work going on around the course with a number of bunkers being worked on and the removal of the old winter green on the second, how many more will disappear I wonder?  A chip in for Andy Simpkin on the 6th to make a par even though it was a thinned shot, but I won't mention that.
