Weather today was cold and overcast with no rain. The new bunkers are now in play as well as most of the others. The course was looking great after the frozen conditions of late.

A few dropouts today with four people playing in the Winter Knockouts, unfortunately Roger and Richard lost but the Miller brothers won.

We started with 8 players but unfortunately lost Stevie B on the first tee with an injury sustained before the golf, this preventing him from swinging the club. Took the wise decision to withdraw. This meant the new 5 to 7 player rule came into action. This meant that normal monies were taken and prizes for 1st, 2nd and F9/B9 awarded. No POTY points are awarded but handicaps are adjusted by half points and eclectics are updated. Who would have thought the first week after it was introduced it would be used.

Scoring was quite low with the winner only scoring 32 points, well done to maestro Peter Laurence. Lucky Tony coming second on 30 points.

Paul looking to beat Andy's low score record by having only 3 points after 6 holes, he was having a grim day with his chipping. 

Andy hit a great shot into the 10th hole which sailed over the green to be lost in the trees. A technology issue meant his watch reported 120yds when it was actually only 70 yds.

Much talk about Andy's new old car a Mazda MX5, which he intends to drive to Italy in the summer with his hairdressing mates. He had watched a video of how to get his clubs in the boot, such a tight squeeze that he almost failed to retrieve his driver from it.

The average gross score today was 95.00 points and the average Stableford score was 26.57.

Best gross of the day was from Pete Laurence with 84.

There were 0 Eagles or better today.

There were 0 birdies today.

Our winner today with 32 points was Pete Laurence.
In second place on 30 points was Tony Froud.
The front 9 went to Jock Hunter with 16 points.
The back 9 went to Peter Creighton with 14 points.

Middle of the green today! Windy again today, but that wasn't a problem! A nice warm brisk breeze from the south made it seem like we were driving into the wind for the most part today but we seemed to cope ok with that, it was the greens that were the problem. Even the best puts today were coming up short or swerving from the hole. All of them spent more time in the air than on the ground just bobbling along.  13 players set out today but only 12 returned. Jock was lost somewhere along the way leaving a 2-ball to wait patiently behind our 4 ball. Steve and Martin both made the most of the extra time they had (see below) Average scores were not great: 99.25 average gross score and 26.25 average stableford score. Judging from what I saw the putting was the biggest contributor to extra shots.  Only 2 birdies today. Martin Lythgoe on 10 and Brian Geddes on 18. Well done both! Still the extra time that Steve Reynolds had as a result helped him refocus for his back 9 and he came in...

The day started out a bit chilly but turned into a beautiful day. The course was in fabulous condition with the bunkers that were in play in a good state. Lots of work going on around the course with a number of bunkers being worked on and the removal of the old winter green on the second, how many more will disappear I wonder?  A chip in for Andy Simpkin on the 6th to make a par even though it was a thinned shot, but I won't mention that.   Ball hunting was the game this week, at least for some of our number. The rough has thickened given the recent rain and sunshine combination and it's making it very hard to find balls that find their way in, not ideal for our standard of golf. This combined with the firming up of the course would make ideal conditions for our one and only metro-gnome and it looked like he was in the hunt on the front 9 until his groin gave out following the other side effect of good weather, gardening duty. I have a sign for you Paul, refer to it on Thursdays or Fridays.... Anyway rest up and we'll see you back to form in no time.  The weather this week was stunning, summer having followed us back from Menorca, thankfully the wind hasn't followed us! The course is in fantastic shape but they have let the greens grow out a bit making putting pace a bit tricky to judge. I'm sure this resulted in a few shots left out there this week, it did in our group.  Average scores this week reflect...
