A cold brisk northerly wind signalled that winter is nearly upon us, quite a contrast from recent weeks. The colder conditions and recent rain meant receptive fairways and greens allowing a bit more aggression but the wind was strong and would be a major factor in play.

Mention for the Miller brothers and myself Paul the Champ Gardner last week in the Captains day. Securing 4th and 2nd place respectively with 43 points. Paul may've mentioned it but we managed 2nd due to a well worked birdie on the 18th. A monster 5 wood from me off the tee followed by two wedge shots to within 6 feet or so of the pin to choose from. We chose the longer of the two which was below the hole and Paul putted out. A real team effort and we could've won overall had it not been for fluffing our second shots on the 13th following a another monster tee shot putting us within 107 yards of the pin. Two duff attempts meant the best we could manage was 5 for 2 rather than the 3 for 4 the tee shot deserved.

The autumn meeting went well with Roger Small taking the trophy and the ever popular Andy Simpkin taking second. Full report available on the blog.

Scoring today wasn't great with the average stableford score of 29.00.

Birdies were in short supply today: Pete Laurence (9) James Miller (16) and yours truly (14)

Our winner today was in the leading group at the autumn meet last week where he played some great golf. Coenraad Fourie managed net par 36 demonstrating yet again that it's lucky to play with Tony. Well done Coenraad.

Second place was taken by Martin Lythgoe with 33 points. Martin smashed the front 9 as usual and managed a string of one pointers on the back 9 to ensure he doesn't drift back into single figures. Well done Martin.

The front 9 was taken by Martin Deery with 19 points. Martin was getting seriously worried about his debt situation and decided to come out fighting. Unfortunately he's not fully match fit and he too capitulated on the back 9. Well done Martin, we'll call off the debt collectors for the time being!

The back 9 was taken by yours truly despite a blob and a one pointer. The birdie ensured I stole the back 9 from Andy Simpkin. Well done me.

Next week the 4th group have a late start thanks to Duncan's big night out, or did he book it late because he's planning a big night out on Friday. Not clear to me from the WhatApp chat but Roger said something about a fine. Discuss.....

Have a great week gents. Enjoy the windy, cold weather.
