Today was the last swindle game of the year so it brings a close to the competitions we run during the year.

Many people today said it was cold but not for Steve Reynolds, he was on fire with a very impressive 77 gross and 39 points beating second place Richard by 10 points.

Probably some of the lowest Stableford scores of the year.

Another year of golf comes to an end and it's time to announce the winners of both the Player of The Year and the Race to De Bar.

Player of the year   

The winner of Player of The Year is Richard Hyne well done Richard winning by four points from
Jason and Jock.

Race to de Bar

The winner of Race to De Bar is Richard Hyne well done Richard winning £60 net.

That is Richard's first win of either competition a rise from 10th and 15th places from last year.

Gross Eclectic

Won by James Miller with 59, four shots ahead of the next players and nobody scored an eagle this year.

Stableford Eclectic

Won by Roger Small with 64 points and the only 5 pointer of the year, scored on the 6th hole.

"I out drove James on the 5th and the 8th with my 4 iron!!"

"Tony did out drive me and hit the flag on the 5th with his 4th shot. I think after that it went to his head. He spent the rest of the round walking confidently down the fairway only for the rest of us to tell him he had walked past his ball and had to walk back to his ball. He even walked to the 12th tee and then had to walk back to the 11th green as he had forgotten his bag. He isn’t good enough to have his own caddie yet."

"I would like to point out the 4 best scores of the day all come from the same group.  We were all   inspired by Steve I think. A remarkable performance."

"Inspiring down 17 and 18 only!"

"On the first, Steve said , “I need to wear winter gloves” as it was so chilly. After a woeful tee shot into the woods Steve then tore up the front nine to get 20 points. On the 10th tee he decided the gloves could come off, now his cockles were warmed up, he promptly went woody twice. Feeling chilly again, Steve put the gloves back on and sank a 25 foot putt for 5 - going on to tear up the back nine. The lucky gloves will be back next week."

The average gross score today was 95.29 and the average Stableford score was 24.36.

Best gross of the day was from Steve Reynolds with 77.

There were 0 Eagles or better today.

Our winner today with 39 points was Steve Reynolds.
In second place on 29 points was Richard Hyne.
The front 9 went to Martin Lythgoe with 15 points.
The back 9 went to Roger Gibbs with 16 points.

Good weather greeted us on Saturday and the course is starting to look better. Fairways are starting to grow back after a week of on and off rain. Greens more receptive and greens a little slower. New bunkers are looking great, excellent work by the Neary's and by the greenkeeping staff. Filled in bunkers are much better than the grassed depressions we have been accustomed to in the past. I (Paul) especially like the changes to the 14th, also the 3rd is looking great. 17th has a lot of work going on around the green with large areas of G.U.R.  Well done to Paul for his win today he sunk some good putts. Of note group 3 had all four players on 34 points coming to the last. Stories from the course John James to Steve Reynolds "You have a very Christian swing" , we think he meant crisp. The weather today was calm and dry. Some tricky pin positions with the 14th being the worst. The fairways have not improved a whole lot but not too dissimilar to Burhill which a few of us played earlier in the week. I have added two new items to the website menu the first is a list of members we have had over the years since 2004, that's about as far has by emails go back. Despite a poor forecast for the Saturday golf it actually turned out fairly good a bit of rain affecting the last three of our groups at the end of their rounds. I new feature on the 18th fairway is new weather station mounted on a tripod. Sited there so they can see when it gets stolen. It all looks very technical. Despite rumours, it is not capable of automatically closing the course at the first sign of rain. More work on the course cutting the high hedge on the 12th fairway, it looks much better. Some good scores this week and some not so good. It was a winter league match so those with a 34 or above did well, especially Andy who scored a magnificent 39 points. Well done Andy with a fine win, so good that Steve wrote a song about. Andy The Hero Close run for second place with Paul, Roger G and Martin all scoring 34 points. Martin clinching it on the last with Paul hoping Martin would get a six and not a five. Roger played a very steady game today and Paul missed a load of putts....
