Scores for 26 February 2022
The course is still difficult in parts due to the normal winter wear but it was in very good condition given the recent wet and windy weather. There is a lot of debris to negotiate around the course, particularly around 10/11 which seem to have accumulated more than a fair share.
Anyway, the conditions were fine, we were chomping at the bit and that must lead to some good scores! More than half of the field of 14 scored 30 or more and whilst there were 6 stragglers, one had a really good excuse, he only played two thirds of the course.
Yes, Richard applied his usual just in time approach to getting to the golf course only to find himself under house arrest. The Chinese made keyless entry system had decided that he should not be allowed to leave, no doubt applying the curfew rules ahead of their eventual takeover. He tried the manual approach but still couldn't get out and had to call an engineer. Anyway, he joined in from the 6th hole and still managed 21 points for his trouble.
Birdies today for Steve Brewerton (3, 8, 11) Steve Reynolds (11) Pete Laurence (8) Peter Creighton (3) Coenraad Fourie (3) and Roger Gibbs (3) This must be a record, well done gents!
The leaderboard was all about Steves and Petes today. Steve Brewerton and Steve Reynolds were battling for first place with Pete Laurence and Pete Creighton snapping at their heals. It looked at one point like Steve Reynolds might take an unusual first place when Steve Brewerton stumbled on the 15th but his performance on the last 3 holes was somewhat wanting.
So Steve Brewerton takes the honours today with a stonking 41 points (22 out, 19 in) Well done Steve!
Steve Reynolds takes second place with 39 points (20 out 19 in) Well done Steve!
Pete Laurence managed 3rd place but also nicked the front 9 with 19 points on countback from Pete Creighton. Well done Pete (unlucky Pete!)
Andy Simpkin stole an extra point to take the back 9 with 16 points from a chasing pack of 5 others who needed to sink just one more put or make one more green in regulation to stop him getting further ahead on the POTY leaderboard without having actually managing a first place. Well done Andy!
Have a wonderful week gentlemen, hopefully next Saturday will deliver another fine instalment.
