The weather was kind to us today, no wind and the expected rain failed to materialise. 

This was our first weekend of the year off of the white tees, the scoring shows that it did not affect our scores with five people scoring 20 or more points on the front nine and four of 19 on the back nine.

The winner today with a fantastic 40 points was Martin Deery with three zero point scores and a run of four pars from hole nine onwards. Well done Martin.

Reports of many shots that hit the flag, I myself (Paul) had one on the 2nd and Steve B a great one on the 15th, Steve hit a poor tee shot onto the 16th fairway and then hit the trees with his second, the ball coming to rest behind the bunkers on the green side of the 16th, Steve then hit a great wood which bounded onto the green and hit the flag the ball coming to rest about 10 feet away from the pin. Unfortunately he failed to sink the putt for a four, one of many missed putts for Steve today.

Excellent front nine team score for Group 4 of Steve B, Martin L and Paul G, with scores of 22, 22 and 21 points. Well done guys.

The average gross score today was 88.77 points and the average Stableford score was a very respectable 33.92.

Best gross of the day was from Richard Hyne with 81.

There were 0 Eagles or better today.

There were 4 birdies today.

Richard Hyne with 1 on hole 10.
Stephen Brewerton with 1 on hole 17.
Peter Creighton with 1 on hole 5.
James Miller with 1 on hole 7.

Our winner today with 40 points was Martin Deery.
In second place on 38 points was Richard Hyne.
The front 9 went to Stephen Brewerton with 22 points.
The back 9 went to Jason Landau with 19 points.

The day started out a bit chilly but turned into a beautiful day. The course was in fabulous condition with the bunkers that were in play in a good state. Lots of work going on around the course with a number of bunkers being worked on and the removal of the old winter green on the second, how many more will disappear I wonder?  A chip in for Andy Simpkin on the 6th to make a par even though it was a thinned shot, but I won't mention that.   Ball hunting was the game this week, at least for some of our number. The rough has thickened given the recent rain and sunshine combination and it's making it very hard to find balls that find their way in, not ideal for our standard of golf. This combined with the firming up of the course would make ideal conditions for our one and only metro-gnome and it looked like he was in the hunt on the front 9 until his groin gave out following the other side effect of good weather, gardening duty. I have a sign for you Paul, refer to it on Thursdays or Fridays.... Anyway rest up and we'll see you back to form in no time.  The weather this week was stunning, summer having followed us back from Menorca, thankfully the wind hasn't followed us! The course is in fantastic shape but they have let the greens grow out a bit making putting pace a bit tricky to judge. I'm sure this resulted in a few shots left out there this week, it did in our group.  Average scores this week reflect...

It was good to be back on our home course after visiting Donnington Valley last weekend, I will never complain about the slopes on ours again. The greens were in excellent condition today, unfortunately the ropes have been put up to protect the approaches and it is a long walk from your trolly when you end up short of the green. The weather was fairly kind to us today with a few showers towards the end. A small field of only 9 players with no outrageous scores. The course was fairly empty today and we had a leisurely four hour round. An excellent score from Steve Reynolds today to take first place, not the bridesmaid on this occasion. Martin Lythgoe asked for a picture of the colourful bruise he inflicted on me last Monday, he said it was for his wife. I (Paul), thought I was playing well today after a reasonable front nine but 1 point from the first four holes on the back put paid to any hope of winning anything.
