The weather today was calm and dry. Some tricky pin positions with the 14th being the worst.
The fairways have not improved a whole lot but not too dissimilar to Burhill which a few of us played earlier in the week.

I have added two new items to the website menu the first is a list of members we have had over the years since 2004, that's about as far has by emails go back. I have included short cut links here if you wish to see them.

Let me know if I have missed anything.

Some comments after the game today about slow play so please don't take multiple practice swings and be ready to play when it is your turn.

I myself (Paul) tried to take out my two playing partners once on the 6th with a wayward chip that narrowly missed Pete Laurance and then on the 7th to miss James after I tried hacking out of the woods. Sorry guys.

Jock had a few problems with his trolley which had a mind of its own on the 12th.



Luckily his playing partners came to the rescue.


Probably the biggest collapse was Peter Williams who had 21 points on the front nine but only managed 12 on the back, 4 points of that on one hole with a birdie on 16,

We have two out of four teams currently in the top 15, one in 6th place "Formerly the Marlboro Men" and one in 15th "Martin and the Chipmunks". Two more games to play.

"I chipped in on 5 for a birdie from 10yds
On 10 I hit a great 3w to 140yds, then thinned my wedge. It was definitely heading OOB and hit the flagstick, dropping straight down giving me a 4’ putt which I duly missed, but still made par. 
Followed by an 8 on 11: lost the tee shot in the right rough, provisional went in the fairway then I shanked a wedge and dropped another provisional. Luckily I found the shanked ball in the rough, but struggled to make the 8 😭

"Conraad, Steve and I all hit 350yd drives on the 15th, then both Conraad and I managed to get down in 6 from 80yds with Steve making par. Tony made a 5"

"I out drove James Miller on the 10th by 6 yds, I had 136 yds left to the pin and James 142yds"

Best gross of the day was from Steve Reynolds with 82.

Coenraad Fourie with 2 on holes 2 and 16.
Jock Hunter with 2 on holes 9 and 12.
Peter Williams with 2 on holes 5 and 16.
Jason Landau with 1 on hole 12.

Our winner today with 39 points was Coenraad Fourie.
In second place on 35 points was Jock Hunter. Three tied on 35 points.
The front 9 went to Peter Williams with 21 points.
The back 9 went to Richard Hyne with 18 points.

The day started out a bit chilly but turned into a beautiful day. The course was in fabulous condition with the bunkers that were in play in a good state. Lots of work going on around the course with a number of bunkers being worked on and the removal of the old winter green on the second, how many more will disappear I wonder?  A chip in for Andy Simpkin on the 6th to make a par even though it was a thinned shot, but I won't mention that. It was good to be back on our home course after visiting Donnington Valley last weekend, I will never complain about the slopes on ours again. The greens were in excellent condition today, unfortunately the ropes have been put up to protect the approaches and it is a long walk from your trolly when you end up short of the green. The weather was fairly kind to us today with a few showers towards the end. A small field of only 9 players with no outrageous scores. The course was fairly empty today and we had a leisurely four hour round. An excellent score from Steve Reynolds today to take first place, not the bridesmaid on this occasion. Martin Lythgoe asked for a picture of the colourful bruise he inflicted on me last Monday, he said it was for his wife. I (Paul), thought I was playing well today after a reasonable front nine but 1 point from the first four holes on the back put paid to any hope of winning anything. Weather was mainly dry with a few showers towards the end of the round and a bit chilly to start with. Course was playing quite difficult due to the greens having been hollow tined, they were quite bumpy and many felt the holes were crowned, quite a few near misses with the ball turning away at the last moment. A few dropouts and two playing in the Valentine Pairs otherwise a good sized field. A very good round by Richard today with a score of 36 points, Tony had a great front nine but collapsed somewhat on the back nine but took second which allowed Martin Deery to take the front 9. Roger Small, after a poor start, finished well and took the back nine. Headline : Martin Deery had a swathe of pink scores mainly due to him not playing much this year. The average gross score today was 93.80 points and the average Stableford score was 29.60. Best gross of the day was from Richard Hyne with 82. There were 0 Eagles or better today.
