Scores for Saturday 22 November 2025



Despite a poor forecast for the Saturday golf it actually turned out fairly good a bit of rain affecting the last three of our groups at the end of their rounds. I new feature on the 18th fairway is new weather station mounted on a tripod. Sited there so they can see when it gets stolen.


It all looks very technical. Despite rumours, it is not capable of automatically closing the course at the first sign of rain. More work on the course cutting the high hedge on the 12th fairway, it looks much better.

Some good scores this week and some not so good. It was a winter league match so those with a 34 or above did well, especially Andy who scored a magnificent 39 points. Well done Andy with a fine win, so good that Steve wrote a song about.

Close run for second place with Paul, Roger G and Martin all scoring 34 points. Martin clinching it on the last with Paul hoping Martin would get a six and not a five. Roger played a very steady game today and Paul missed a load of putts. Martin improved a lot from his miserable mid week game.

A glut of birdies this week group 1 scoring 3 and group 4 scoring 3. It must be said, Richard kept telling us, that all of of group 1s were scored by him. Well done Richard.

"Trying to get the swelling down where Roger hit me with a golf ball! On the 4th green I marked my ball as the others were still to chip, I turn round and Roger has just hit it anyway! With no time to get out of the way and it heading for my testicles, I use my hand to deflect it! Although I don’t need testicles to play golf, I need my hand, did I make the right decision?!?"


Next week one of our old members, Brian, is joining us, it will be good to catch up with him.

The following week we have the Turkey Trott, we have a number of teams entered, good luck the Ealybirds. The  week after that is the Earlybirds Xmas lunch, I am sure we are all looking forward to that.

Earlybirds Xmas game is played off of swindle handicaps with no winners adjustments and does not form part of the Race to De Bar or the Player of the year but it is one of our three majors.

Only three more scoring weeks left until year end. It is still all to play for at the top of both tables.

The average gross score today was 90.73 points and the average Stableford score was 29.80.

Best gross of the day was from Peter Williams with 82.

There were 0 Eagles or better today.

There were 8 birdies today.

Richard Hyne with 3 on holes 3, 5 and 18.
Peter Williams with 2 on holes 3 and 12.
Andrew Simpkin with 1 on hole 18.
Martin Deery with 1 on hole 11.
Pete Laurence with 1 on hole 3.

Our winner today with 39 points was Andrew Simpkin.
In second place on 34 points was Martin Deery.
The front 9 went to Roger Gibbs with 18 points.
The back 9 went to Jason Landau with 17 points.

The weather today was calm and dry. Some tricky pin positions with the 14th being the worst. The fairways have not improved a whole lot but not too dissimilar to Burhill which a few of us played earlier in the week. Scores for Saturday 06 September 2025

Good weather greeted us on Saturday and the course is starting to look better. Fairways are starting to grow back after a week of on and off rain. Greens more receptive and greens a little slower. New bunkers are looking great, excellent work by the Neary's and by the greenkeeping staff. Filled in bunkers are much better than the grassed depressions we have been accustomed to in the past. I (Paul) especially like the changes to the 14th, also the 3rd is looking great. 17th has a lot of work going on around the green with large areas of G.U.R.  Well done to Paul for his win today he sunk some good putts. Of note group 3 had all four players on 34 points coming to the last. Stories from the course John James to Steve Reynolds "You have a very Christian swing" , we think he meant crisp. Today was the Earlybirds Christmas party, pleasant weather greeted the golfers with the Sun actually coming out to warm us up towards the end of the round. The question on everybody's lips was could Paul Gardner win for a third year in a row. Rumour has it he was allowed to win in previous years as nobody wanted to arrange the following year's party. This year Paul was drawn in the last group to make it harder for the other players to watch his score. Paul was drawn with Peter C and Luck Tony. Tony playing a very steady round until he somewhat collapsed on the last, probably worrying that he may win. He managed to grab second place on count back from Roger Gibbs, three player tied on 35 points. Paul tried his best but low scores on 8, 9, 10 and 11 put paid to his chances.
