Scores for JJ Cup Day 2 Saturday 18 April 2026



For Day 2 we once again had good weather, no rain but windy conditions. A late start at 12:56pm meant a lot of sitting around after breakfast, very similar to last year.

The golf was played on the Championship course which was looking splendid. Plenty of water to contend with and we played off Swindle handicaps.

Again we were 14 players as unfortunately Dan Smith was unable to join us.

Prizes were the normal swindle money for 1st, 2nd, front 9 and back 9.

Winner today was Paul with 34 points with bridesmaid Steve Reynolds missing out with 32 points after having a nil score on the eighteenth. unlucky Steve.

No longest drive or nearest the pins today.

High for Paul at least was his first hole where he hit a seven wood 107 yds into gale force winds to come up 1ft away for a knock in birdie. Well done Paul.

"Thank you to Roger for organising and sorting the prizes, Paul for doing the cards and last minute adjustments. John James for kicking off an annual event that will be enjoyed by all that attend now and into the future, leading to that which I enjoy most the fantastic array of personalities and friends.

Finally for me thanks to all those that joined me on the long walks this weekend, great company. Especially Steve R who loves the game and a joke on the course, played great golf all weekend apart from maybe the 36th hole." 

The average gross score today was 97.4 and the average Stableford score was 26.57.

Best gross of the day was from Steve Reynolds with 83.

There were 0 Eagles or better today.

There were 5 birdies today.

Steve Reynolds with 2 on holes 1 and 7.
Paul Gardner with 1 on hole 1.
Stephen Brewerton with 1 on hole 7.
James Miller with 1 on hole 6.

Our winner today with 34 points was Paul Gardner.
In second place on 32 points was Steve Reynolds.
The front 9 went to Roger Small with 18 points.
The back 9 went to Roger Gibbs with 18 points.

The weather today was calm and dry. Some tricky pin positions with the 14th being the worst. The fairways have not improved a whole lot but not too dissimilar to Burhill which a few of us played earlier in the week. Despite a poor forecast for the Saturday golf it actually turned out fairly good a bit of rain affecting the last three of our groups at the end of their rounds. I new feature on the 18th fairway is new weather station mounted on a tripod. Sited there so they can see when it gets stolen. It all looks very technical. Despite rumours, it is not capable of automatically closing the course at the first sign of rain. More work on the course cutting the high hedge on the 12th fairway, it looks much better. Some good scores this week and some not so good. It was a winter league match so those with a 34 or above did well, especially Andy who scored a magnificent 39 points. Well done Andy with a fine win, so good that Steve wrote a song about. Andy The Hero Close run for second place with Paul, Roger G and Martin all scoring 34 points. Martin clinching it on the last with Paul hoping Martin would get a six and not a five. Roger played a very steady game today and Paul missed a load of putts....

Scores for Saturday 06 September 2025

Good weather greeted us on Saturday and the course is starting to look better. Fairways are starting to grow back after a week of on and off rain. Greens more receptive and greens a little slower. New bunkers are looking great, excellent work by the Neary's and by the greenkeeping staff. Filled in bunkers are much better than the grassed depressions we have been accustomed to in the past. I (Paul) especially like the changes to the 14th, also the 3rd is looking great. 17th has a lot of work going on around the green with large areas of G.U.R.  Well done to Paul for his win today he sunk some good putts. Of note group 3 had all four players on 34 points coming to the last. Stories from the course John James to Steve Reynolds "You have a very Christian swing" , we think he meant crisp.
