Scores for Saturday 1 May 2021
Before we get to the golf this week a shout out for Chris who is in good spirits despite what he is going through. Best wishes from all of us Chris, we look forward to seeing you soon.
On other matters the BJ B&B scandal this week has prompted me to come out and say that the extension on my house, the repairs to the driveway, the patio, the gazebo for the cooking area, the garden furniture and the pizza oven were sadly all paid for by me. Some would argue that as I was working in banking at the time of earning all the cash to pay for this that the money was stolen from the poor but that's an entirely separate scandal. I did of course explore ways in which others could pay for it but the crowd funding efforts netted £0.00 and my winnings in the swindle just didn't cover it.
Perfect conditions for golf this week with very light winds and sunny spells. Not the blue skies promised by my weather app but no sign of rain. I personally experienced the worst round since lockdown and my fellow golfers didn't inspire. The first tee for our group was an indication of what was to come with JJ chipping the ball 20 yards, Richard slicing towards the trees and me hitting the tree to the left only to bounce out into the middle but short of the fairway. I had to keep reminding JJ of his first tee shot by way of consolation that other shots he hit in the round were not the worst golfing shots of the day! As you can all imagine, JJ was not shy in letting me know how appreciative he was of my excellent powers of recall.
Elsewhere there was some pretty reasonable golf being played although the shortage of birdies says either the rock hard course or the lack of golf means we're a little way off our best so far.
Birdies today for Steve Reynolds (3) and Martin Lythgoe (4) - Well done gents!
The overall winner was none other than Roger Gibbs. Roger spent Friday night immersed in imaginings of a net par round and came out and turned all that imagination into an almost flawless round. Shame about the blob on 4 and the dropped points on the back 9 Roger but the best of the day by 2 points. Well done Roger.
Steve Reynolds took second place with 34 points sparking chatter that he's starting his campaign to regain his title as the Bridesmaid. Steve beat Martin Deery on countback thanks to a stronger back 9.
James Miller wins the front 9 with 19 points. James is on the hard tyres this year so they're taking a little time to warm up. Well done James.
Martin Deery didn't go home empty handed and won the back 9 on countback from Richard Hyne and Roger Small despite Roger bagging a 4/4 on the last hole! Richard did play better on the back 9 and is all set to continue where he left off next Saturday. Well done Martin, not having me talk you into missing puts obviously helps :-)
