From Wikipedia...

Luck
is the phenomenon and belief that defines the experience of improbable events, especially improbably positive or negative ones. The naturalistic interpretation is that positive and negative events may happen at any time, both due to random and non-random natural and artificial processes, and that even improbable events can happen by random chance. In this view, the epithet "lucky" or "unlucky" is a descriptive label that refers to an event's positivity, negativity, or improbability.

Well there was some good luck to be witnessed out on the course today for sure. The luck of Jock on the 13th hole where his duff second shot trickled through the hedge and came to rest in the drop zone for the path. There was the luck of my second shot on the 16th which went into and out of the bunker to give me a shot at reaching with the 3rd shot. There was no doubt some bad luck also with puts not quite dropping, the unfortunate bounces into the rough and the balls finding there way into the bunkers that were in play rather than the GUR bunkers. It's a shame Tony couldn't join us today having spent time in the emerald isle, no doubt having kissed the blarney stone and no doubt brimming with the luck of the Irish. Instead it was left to the 12 early birds who could turn out today to take a chance, roll the dice and see what lady luck would bring.

The course was setup at it's most difficult today at the request of the scratch team who had a match and wanted to make it difficult for the opponents. Pity that the majority of members don't give a hoot about the scratch team and would prefer the course to be more playable. Still, scores weren't too badly impacted and most of the field managed 30 or more points.

Birdies were scarce today with only 4: Steve Reynolds (3, 8) Richard Hyne (13) James Miller (12) Well done gents.

Average stableford score was 31.42 and average gross score was 93.3.

Our winner today was yours truly with 42 points. I scrambled a bit on the front 9 to score 18 points but was "like a robot" on the back 9 with 24 points. This comes off the back of a good week where I finally managed to get my gross score down below 95 for the first time in a long time.

Second place was taken by Steve Reynolds (of course!) with 34 points. Steve is soon to be promoted from bridesmaid to bride so someone else needs to pick up the baton. Well done Steve.

The front 9 was taken by Jock Hunter with 16 points on countback from Jason Landau and James Miller. Jason prefers the Redbourn greens having taken the first prize in last Monday's EB outing to our sister club. Well done Jock.

The back 9 goes to Richard Hyne with 18 points, no countback required but there were 4 other players with 17 points snapping at his heals so a cool head was required. Well done Richard.

Enjoy the closing ceremony tomorrow and have a great week all.
