After a good breakfast and a night’s sleep, some slept more than others, we arrived back at the golf course. Today the groups were in reverse order with the leaders going out last, except that is for the first group which comprised of three player that needed to get away early, two needed to catch flights and one for a family meal in London.

The weather looking good on the forecasts.

The leaders from the first day and going out last were Peter Williams, Steve Brewerton, Paul Gardner and Steve Reynolds. Would the winner come from this group or would they collapse under the pressure?

The first to break was Steve Reynolds, well not Steve but his seven iron which he managed to wrap around a tree on the 2nd. Not a good start for Steve.

On the 5th hole Paul “Blofeld” Gardner hit a shot to the green went to put his club in his bag and was hit in his side by a ball coming from the 6th. This the first of two assassination attempts to stop him gaining Swindle domination, this coming from Martin Lyhthgoe subsequently claiming he shouted fore. Probably a coded message for the second assassin indicating a kill was not made.

Longest drive hole today was the 6th, a hole that favoured James and his shot shape, he duly won the prize.

The last group then played the 9th hole, again a nearest the pin hole. None of the lead group troubled the pin with Steve Brewerton hitting into the water. This being the site of the second assassination attempt. Word had obviously got through that Martin had failed. Steve B hit his shot and in apparent disgust threw his club, this being in the direction of Paul narrowly missing him. Another failed assassination attempt.

Steve Brewerton's recovery was superb with it stopping stone dead on the green.

The Apache helicopter dispatched to the course by Paul “Blofeld” Gardner to take out the assassins was heard arriving but never actually materialised, it probably could not get a shot away with all the trees present.

None of the lead group were scoring well but neither was anybody else on the course, all struggling with the fast greens, narrow fairways and occasional rain. Steve R lamenting his loss of 7 iron on many occasion.

On the 10th Steve R drove the green and walked away with a deserved birdie.

Hole 15, the longest par five nearly put an end to Paul’s challenge, he had reasonable drive but followed it with 7 fat shots and scored not points.

The second nearest the pin hole today was the 11th, however with nobody able to hit the green we moved it to the 16th for a second try.

Around this time we started looking at the leader board, Steve R, Paul and Steve B were close, within a few shots of each other, Peter and dropped away somewhat.

Hole 16 was the turning point. The nearest the pin had been moved here, The two Steve’s and Peter all managed to miss the green, Steve B going into the water, Paul just missing the green by two feet.
The two Steve’s walked away with no points but Paul chipped in for a birdie 2 and 4 points. The lead had swung in Paul’s favour.

Hole 17 only saw a one point swing back towards Steve R, one point for Steve none for Paul.
Hole 18 a scrappy hole for Steve which yielded zero points, Paul managed to seal the victor by scoring one point and leader by two. Steve Reynolds the bridesmaid again.

The path to swindle domination continues Xmas Cup win, Autumn Cup win and sole control of the swindle spreadsheets, were will it end?

Another great weekend away and I am sure all will look forward to the Spring Cup at the Nottinghamshire Golf Club.

A farewell to Brian no doubt he will visit us in the future.

A short ditty to finish from our resident poet Steve Reynolds.

Two little organisers sat on a wall,
One named Peter one named Paul,
Now there's only one left on the wall,
The other was hit by Martin's ball.
