Scores for Sunday 28 September 2025

Participants, 15 soles from the Saturday swindle and Peter Williams' friend Shaks Kurshid on the end.

The second Swindle Major of the season was at Wokefield Golf Club and place we had visited many times before. This year coinciding with the Ryder Cup in the USA. Who would win?

The Ryder cup was going incredibly well for Team Europe and it looked like we would thrash the USA. Europe only needing 3 points to win and 2.5 points to retain. More to follow.

Drama before we started with Duncan managing to injure himself trying to cut carrots. I trip to A&E resulted in his cut finger being dressed by our wonderful NHS.

Duncan's finger after an altercation with a knife whilst cutting carrots

Duncan decided he would try to play and joined us on the first tee. Unfortunately he could only manage a few shots before calling it a day. He did attempt the longest drive and the nearest the pins though. Well done for trying,

It was a slow start as the group ahead of us struggled to get a couple of shots away on the first tee, much sniggering from our group. Little did we know how we would play it. Our first group also managed to hit poor shots me (Paul) included and I ended up with and 8, Peter Creighton also struggling to play the hole. Note to self don't laugh at other people's mishits.

We had to suffer some light rain for an hour or so at the start of the round but it cleared up, it was very slow, nearly five and a half hours. The course was in good condition although the greens had some poor patches much like ours.

The honours today went to Jason who has been playing very well recently, a solid 38 points, 4 points ahead of James Miller tied with Peter Creighton.

For Monday's game players go out in reverse order, so highest scorers going out last.

As it was the Ryder Cup we also thought it would be a good idea to hold a team competition, Reds against Blues. Team Captain for Reds was Martin Deery and for blues Jason Landau. After the first day blues were leading 5.5 to 2.5, not looking good for the reds just like the USA in the Ryder cup, could they pull it back on Monday?

Following the round we went to the bar to watch some of the Ryder Cup singles before going down for dinner, it was all looking good with Europe up in several matches.

The dinner was very good with positive complements from all of our group. As is usual we drew the sweepstake names during dinner with four individuals managing to draw their own names.

Fortunately for us we had a large screen TV right in front of us so we could watch the drama unfurl.

What we watched was probably the most nerve racking sport on TV I have seen since Lewis Hamilton won his first World Championship on the last corner of the Brazilian Grand Prix or Jonny Wilkinson kicking the goal to win the Rugby World Cup in 2003. Europe started to lose the Ryder Cup the games were going Red, Ludvig Aberg the only player to get a full point, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell
Hatton, Robert MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland all getting half a point each. It was Shane Lowery that managed to get a half point to regain the Ryder Cup. Well done to team Europe.
